The Process of Photosynthesis Explained

  • Carbon dioxide is taken into the plant through tiny openings on the surface called stomata
  • The carbon dioxide is combined with hydrogen ions to form a three-carbon molecule called glycerate-3-phosphate or G3P (Remember this one, folks!)
  • G3P contains chemical energy that is harnessed to synthesize glucose, which the plant uses as fuel
  • Some G3P molecules are also used to regenerate carbon dioxide acceptor molecules, so the process can start all over again.
