MahaRERA and the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) worked to spot error developers and use AI to find problems.

Pune/Mumbai, 15th February 2024: The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) and the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) are teaming up to stop developers from promoting projects without the right registration number and QR code.

ASCI is a group that looks out for consumers in ads, whether they’re in newspapers, on TV, on social media, or on websites. MahaRERA and ASCI have signed an agreement to protect people buying homes. Vasant Vani from MahaRERA and Manisha Kapoor from ASCI signed the agreement. The deal says they’ll use smart technology to find ads without MahaRERA registration and QR codes. They’ll make a special team to keep an eye on ads and tell MahaRERA if they find any without the right info.

Since last year, MahaRERA has been taking action on its own against ads without a registration number and QR code. They’re not just looking at old-fashioned ads; they’re checking out new types of ads too. MahaRERA thinks they should keep a closer eye on all kinds of ads. That’s why they’re working with ASCI now.

According to the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, any big project (over 500 square meters or 8 flats) must be registered with MahaRERA. If a project isn’t registered, the developer can’t show, advertise, or sell any property from it. Since August 1, MahaRERA has also said that every ad from a developer has to have a QR code. This code lets you see all the details about a project with just one click.

Before you invest in a home, it’s important to check if the ad has the MahaRERA registration number and QR code. MahaRERA wants to make sure all ads for real estate projects follow the rules. Ajoy Mehta, the Chairman of MahaRERA, said, “We’ve made sure people trust a project with a MahaRERA registration number. It means your investment is safe. We won’t allow ads without the right number, and now, we need QR codes too. ASCI is helping us stop ads that might mislead people.”

In simple terms, MahaRERA and ASCI are working together to keep an eye on ads and make sure they have the right info. This helps people trust the ads they see when looking for a home.
