“Anatomy of a Fall” Wins Palme d’Or at 76th Cannes Film Festival

The 76th Cannes Film Festival concluded on May 17th, with the French film “Anatomy of a Fall” winning the coveted Palme d’Or award. The movie, directed by Justine Triet, is an intellectual thriller that centers around a woman on trial for the death of her husband. The jury, presided over by Spike Lee, chose the film for its “originality and subversiveness.” Other notable winners included Norwegian director Joachim Trier, who won Best Screenplay for “The Worst Person in the World,” and Leos Carax, who won Best Director for “Annette.” The festival, which was postponed last year due to the pandemic, saw a strong lineup of films that tackled issues such as race, climate change, and mental health.
