RDA Takes Decisive Steps Against Illegal Housing Societies for Inadequate Waste Management

In a bold move to address the growing concern of improper Waste Management in housing societies, the Director General of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has issued instructions to issue show-cause notices. The target? Housing societies lacking designated dumping sites.

These notices are not mere formalities. The RDA is serious about holding housing societies accountable for their waste management practices. The notices will explicitly seek explanations for the existing waste management arrangements in place, putting the onus on the societies to justify their current systems.

To ensure compliance, the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) has been directed to enter into contracts with 74 housing societies. The objective is clear: proper waste disposal at the Losar landfill. This step not only streamlines waste management but also emphasizes the importance of responsible disposal practices.

Non-compliance with the issued notices carries significant consequences. The RDA has made it clear that housing societies failing to meet the required standards may face the cancellation of their registrations. This stern measure serves as a deterrent and underscores the gravity of the issue at hand.

Recognizing the need for sustainable solutions, the RWMC has been tasked with identifying another landfill site for an additional transfer station. This move aims to alleviate the burden on existing facilities and ensures a more efficient waste management process for the region.

In tandem with addressing waste management concerns, the RDA has shown its commitment to tackling unauthorized housing schemes. The Joint Task Force, in a proactive move, demolished constructions of unauthorized housing schemes, including Qaswa Town. This action reinforces the RDA’s resolve to maintain order and prevent the proliferation of illegal developments.

The RDA’s commitment to taking strict action against all Illegal Housing Societies without discrimination sends a clear message. The authority is determined to uphold standards and regulations, promoting a sustainable and lawful urban development landscape.
