Do you like Wordle? Next, try these other puzzle games

Your Wordle for the day is done? While you’re waiting for tomorrow’s puzzle, try one of these other games.

Wordle was the best word game of 2022. Josh Wardle made it for his partner, and it grew until January, when The New York Times bought it. Even a New York Times editor was put in charge of the game. But if you want to keep your mind active with even more puzzles, there are a lot of games worth your time.

Wordle is a game where players try to Guess a five-letter word in six tries or less. If you need help, we have some Wordle tips. After each guess, the game shows gray blocks for letters that were wrong, yellow blocks for letters that were right but in the wrong place, and green blocks for letters that were right but in the right place. It’s fun, but you can’t play again until the next day if you solve the daily problem or run out of guesses.

You’ve probably already picked up some tips, tricks, and lessons from the popular word game, so why not use your new skills to solve other problems as well? Wordle isn’t the only game in town, after all. Here are a few more puzzle games.

Multiple word Wordle spinoffs: Quordle, Octordle, Dordle and Sedecordle

Are you up for a test? If you like Wordle and want a puzzle game that requires more mental capacity, try Quordle, Octordle, Dordle, and Sedecordle. Each of these four word games seems to be a variation on Wordle, but with additional rows, columns, and words to solve. Dordle demands you to solve two words at the same time. Quordle four times in a row. Octordle has eight, while Sedecordle has sixteen.

Word Master

With a small change, this Wordle replica allows you six attempts to identify a five-letter word. Word Master employs the same gray, yellow, and green blocks as the original. What distinguishes it from Wordle? Word Master provides endless games, eliminating the need to wait 24 hours.

Hello Wordl

Hello Wordl is another version of Wordle. It gives you six chances to guess a word and keeps track of your progress with the same colored blocks. You can play as many games as you want, and you can also change the number of letters in the word you’re trying to guess. You can guess a four-letter word or use the slider in the game to go as high as an 11-letter word. No matter how big a word is, you still have six chances to guess it.

Lewdle

Before you play Lewdle, you should read this warning: “Lewdle is a game about bad words. Go play Wordle instead if you are likely to be shocked by the use of swearing, vulgarity, or filth.” It’s like Wordle, but bad words are used. Some of the words are tame, like “poopy,” while others would make a sailor blush. But even though the game uses a lot of bad words, slurs are not one of them. Like Wordle, you have six chances to guess a five-letter word. The gray, yellow, and green blocks are used in the same way, and there is only one problem per day. Go out there and say bad things!

Absurdle

Absurdle says that it is the “opposite” of Wordle. Wordle nudges you in the right way with each guess, but Absurdle “is actively trying to avoid giving you the answer,” according to the game’s website. Absurdle doesn’t give the player a word to guess at the start of the game. Instead, it uses the player’s guesses to cut down the list of words, so the game can last as long as possible. Even a yellow letter from one of your earlier guesses might not be in the last word. You can guess as many times as you want, which is helpful, and four guesses is the best score you can get. Enjoy it!

Crosswordle

Wordle is fun, but what if it was more like a crossword? Crosswordle is here. You have to figure out two words of different lengths that cross each other like a crossword problem. This game is based on Wordle. There is one task a day, and the gray, yellow, and green blocks are all the same. But it looks like you can guess as many times as you want until you either get the words or give up. Crosswordle is different from other Wordle-based games because you can make your own Crosswordle problem to share with your friends.I made this one. If Crosswordle wasn’t hard enough, the Settings page says that the makers are working on a Hard Mode.

Antiwordle

Are you sick of seeing those green blocks everywhere on your social media feed? Try out Antiwordle. Every day, Wordle wants you to guess a word in as few guesses as possible. Antiwordle, on the other hand, wants you to guess as many times as possible to avoid the word. When you guess, gray, yellow, or red letters will show up on the board. Gray means the letter isn’t in the word and can’t be used again. Yellow means the letter is in the word and must be included in each guess after that. Red means the letter is in the exact spot in the word and can’t be moved. You win if you can use every letter on the computer and still miss the word. It sounds easy, but I’ve found that this form of Wordle is much harder than the original.

Waffle

Waffle would be the answer if Wordle had a grid and you had to find six five-letter words at once. The green, yellow, and gray blocks are back. They show that the letter and its place are correct, that the letter is correct but its place is wrong, or that the letter and its place are wrong. But in this spinoff, you don’t have to guess words. Waffle gives you the letters you need, but you have to change them in 15 letter swaps or less to get all six words right. It might sound confusing at first, but after a few changes you’ll get the hang of it.

Lordle of the Rings

Lordle of the Rings is for people who like Tolkien and want to play Wordle. The gray, yellow, and green blocks are here, and players have six chances to guess a five-letter word from the main Lord of the Rings book. Places like Rohan, well-known people like Frodo and Smaug, and less well-known people like Turin, Hurin, and Idril are all possible ideas. There is only one game a day, but you can play it as many times as you want in the same day.

Primel

Lordle of the Rings is for people who like Tolkien and want to play Wordle. The gray, yellow, and green blocks are here, and players have six chances to guess a five-letter word from the main Lord of the Rings book. Places like Rohan, well-known people like Frodo and Smaug, and less well-known people like Turin, Hurin, and Idril are all possible ideas. There is only one game a day, but you can play it as many times as you want in the same day.

Nerdle

For people who are more interested in numbers, there is also Nerdle. But this time, you have to guess the math problem and its answer. You have six chances to figure out the equation and the answer. The equation must also make sense numerically, so don’t forget PEMDAS. After each guess, the numbers or symbols that are in the right place will turn green, the ones that are in the wrong place will turn purple, and the ones that aren’t in the equation will turn black. You have to wait eight hours between puzzles. Here is a clue: There is always a “=” sign in the piece. You can thank us in the future.

IYKYK

IYKYK is a mix of Wordle and the card game #CultureTags. The same people who made #CultureTags also made IYKYK. In this game, you are given a word and have three guesses or less to figure out what it stands for. You are told the first letter of each word, how many letters are in each word, and a tip after your second guess. The green, yellow, and gray blocks also make an appearance. Even though IYKYK is based on #CultureTags, none of the names from that game are used in IYKYK.

Worldle

Don’t like numbers or words? Try out Worldle. You have six chances to figure out what country or region is shown in this Wordle version. After each guess, you don’t see gray, yellow, or green blocks that mark letters or numbers. Instead, you see distance, direction, and closeness %, like a hot and cold game. If you guess Chile, for example, Worldle might show you 13,557 km and an arrow going northeast with a 32% chance. This means that the right country or region is 13,557 km northeast of Chile and has a 32% chance of being close. You’re not warm enough. There is only one task a day, but you can make the game harder by not showing the country or by switching which country is shown.

You can play connections game on any web browser.

Heardle

Heardle gives you six chances to name a song and artist, playing a longer clip of the track with each wrong guess.

Can you tell what kind of song it is just by hearing the first few seconds? This word is for you. In this game, one second of a song from a list of highly streamed acts is played, and you have to guess what song it is. You have six chances to guess, and each wrong guess lets you hear more of the song. You can also skip a turn, which lets you hear more of the song. If you solve the problem or don’t, a timer will tell you how long it will be until the next one.

Name That Ride

Do you know the difference between a ’55 and a ’57 Chevy Bel Air? Try the game Name That Ride. In this game, you have 20 seconds and six guesses to figure out what kind of car is in the picture as more of it appears. When you think you know what car is in the picture, you click Guess, which stops the timer, and type in your answer. There is a list of cars, so you can guess the year of a car even if you don’t know for sure.

Lookdle

Lookdle is similar to Name That Ride, but this game has you guess which famous person is shown in a pixelated picture. You get five guesses, and with each wrong guess the picture comes more into focus. There is also a preset list of names you can choose from, but the list doesn’t have every famous person in it. That can be good since it narrows down who can be in each picture, or it can be bad because who you think is in the picture might not be an option.

Words With Friends

What would this list of word games be without this old favorite? Words With Friends is like a virtual version of Scrabble, and even though it came out more than ten years ago, it is still very popular. You and your opponent, who could be a person or a machine, each get a set of letters and try to make words on the board. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game wins.

You can play Words With Friends in any computer browser or download it from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

Words With Friends is a classic, and it’s still a popular word game.

Word Forward

Word Forward is like Boggle, but you can get help from power-ups and tools. You play on a five-by-five board with letters and try to make words with those letters. When you make a word, the letters you didn’t use go away. You keep going until the board is empty. If you get stuck, you can use your power-ups and tools to get rid of some letters or shuffle the board to make new letters appear.

You can get Word Forward from the App Store, the Play Store, the Nintendo Switch Nintendo Game Store, or Steam.

Wordscapes gives players letters and asks them to fill in a crossword puzzle with those letters.

Wordscapes

Wordscapes is like a combination of the game Boggle and a crossword puzzle. At the bottom of your screen are a bunch of letters, and at the top is a crossword problem. You use the letters in your bank to make words and fill in the crossword. When you finish the game, you get a nice picture of a scene.
