That’s why our Miomio Detox Shampoo Hygienzing All Hair Types, Leave-on Conditioning Spray, and Detox Hair & Scalp Conditioning Mask. are 100% natural and organic ingredients with no additives or harmful ingredients. However, what about the rest of the personal care industry? Are they use pure, natural, and organic ingredients valued in the same manner by other businesses? What chemicals are hiding in the shampoos and conditioners you use every day?

Here is a list of 10 potentially harmful ingredients to look out for the next time you go out to buy shampoo or any other personal care products.

1. Parabens

Another incredibly common and toxic ingredient is parabens. These are frequently present in shampoos and conditioners of reputable brands and serve primarily as preservatives to extend shelf life. Parabens, also known as xenoestrogens, can disturb your body’s normal hormonal balance, irritate your skin, harm your reproductive system, and even induce neurotoxicity. You will probably not find a list of ingredients that includes the phrase “parabens.” You should instead watch out for words that finish in “paraben,” such as butylparaben, ethylparaben, and methylparaben.

 2.Mineral Oil

Mineral oil is a hydrating oil that is inexpensive and widely used in cosmetic formulations. Mineral oil can restore shine, reduce tangling, and stop broken ends when used in hair treatments. Mineral oil makes a great protective, glossy coating for the hair, but because it can’t actually penetrate the hair fiber, it won’t be able to repair the damage that has already been done. We advise looking for conditioners or leave-in products that use coconut oil instead of mineral oil if you’re looking for an oil that will be more successful at avoiding the loss of vital hair proteins. Plant oils typically give far more additional benefits than mineral oil. Coconut oil is one of the best natural substances for maintaining healthy hair by avoiding protein loss, whether your hair is damaged.

3.Sulfates

You’ve probably heard the word sulfate. Chemical detergents lather when you apply shampoo to your hair and are found in over 90% of hair care products. After rinsing, sulfates strip natural oils, moisturizers and color from the hair and scalp, leaving dryness, dandruff and irritation. Ultimately it can lead to kidney damage and hormonal imbalances.

Check the labels for Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLES) and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) the next time you go shopping. These are sulfates to avoid.

 4.Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is an ingredient under investigation due to safety concerns. This is a vapor found in hair products used to straighten, wax, and/or cleanse. It is also found in detergents and keratin treatment ingredients like methylene glycol and glyoxylic acid). When used at very low levels, formaldehyde is considered safe for use in cosmetics (although it can be sensitive to the scalp and skin).Even items that are promoted as “formaldehyde-free” may nevertheless be able to have potentially harmful effects when used under specific circumstances because formaldehyde is not legally required to be declared on the ingredients list when it is used to create other substances.

5.Synthetic Fragrances

Fragrances are known to cause a variety of skin reactions, including redness, itching, hives, and dermatitis. If the ingredient list says “fragrance”, proceed with caution. Labels are not required by law to list what the compound actually consists of. The majority (more than 95%) of the compounds in synthetic perfumes come from petrochemicals. While using fragranced hair products really improves the experience, if you have sensitive skin on your scalp, you may want to look for fragrance-free shampoos and hair treatments. On the other hand, there isn’t much of a risk of irritation while using fragranced products on the ends of your hair. It is also known as Parfum

6.Denatured Alcohols

Denatured alcohols are a category of skincare chemicals that, when used regularly or in high concentrations, can be drying to the scalp. A hair product that lists alcohol as one of the initial components is therefore best avoided. Although these alcohols are technically acceptable for use in products, avoiding drying ingredients can assist your hair and scalp remain hydrated and healthy over time.

Common denatured alcohols: SD & Alcohol Denat SD Alcohol 30, SD Alcohol 39-B, SD Alcohol 39-C, SD Alcohol 40-B, and SD Alcohol 40-C.
