Boys basketball: Joey Tomasso’s huge night and other Section 4 semifinal highlights

A scintillating performance from Waverly first-team all-state guard Joey Tomasso highlighted boys basketball Semifinal action in Section 4 on Wednesday night.

Tomasso scored 39 points to lead top-seeded Waverly’s 60-48 victory over fifth-seeded Dryden in a Class B semifinal. That sets up Sunday’s 11:45 a.m. championship game against second-seeded Lansing at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton. Lansing beat Oneonta, 64-59, in the other semifinal.

Semifinals in classes AA, C and D were also played Wednesday.

All six sectional finals for the boys are set. The other matchups:

Class AAA: Corning at Elmira, 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Class AA: Binghamton vs. Union-Endicott, 3:15 p.m. Sunday at Visions Arena.

Tomasso nailed three of his six 3-pointers in the opening quarter, then hit three more in the third quarter to help stem a Dryden comeback bid.
