À la mode, or “in fashion.” This French phrase extends beyond clothing, representing broad-spectrum taste in arts and culture, et al. From its corner of Europe, Milanese fashion giant Prada embodies the spirit of the expression with Prada Reporter—a series of special installations and pop-up stores debuting this fall, re-interpreting the history of photography as it fits within the contemporary relationship between man and nature. The centerpiece is Witness to Nature, devised in collaboration with Magnum Photos—a cooperative of acclaimed, independent image-makers who use documentary methods to represent world events, upholding the agency’s core value of art-making that “defies convention, shatters the status quo, redefines history and transforms lives.”

Following the project’s openings in Milan, Singapore, and London, Prada’s New York store was decorated with a special selection of camera-centric novelties last Friday, designed to “evoke the theme of reportage,” a press release states. Over 200 images chosen by Magnum Photos adorn the storefront, some placed within floor-to-ceiling backlit frames, reflecting the four themes of Witness to Nature: Nature & Metropolis, Costumes & Cultures, Community & Seclusion, and Eternal & Ephemeral. Mannequins assumed the poses of reporters in various stages of the image-making process, alongside furniture shaped like oversized camera parts. The installation will live on Broadway through November 6.

An exclusive selection of clothing and accessories complements the in-store concept, inspired by both the broad aesthetic of the Witness to Nature series, and the idea of a roaming photographer’s uniform. Boxy silhouettes dominate across men’s and women’s collections, drawing from the Prada Re-Nylon program—a sustainability initiative launched in 2020 that repurposes ocean plastics. A rather apt camera bag was also included in the offerings, presented in neutrals like black, khaki green, and muted prints.

The Prada Reporter series will continue to pop up around the globe until January 2—bringing the concept of photographic inquiry to life, adopting the language of the wondrous world of Prada.
