Five qualify for OFSAA tennis championship

Five local players qualified for the OFSAA Tennis Championship by earning top-two results at the SWOSSAA championship Wednesday in Chatham.

Hudson DeNure and Nele Rabehl, of Chatham-Kent, won the girls’ doubles title with a 3-0 record at the Doug Allin courts.

Tom Blundy and Josh Blundy, of Ursuline, placed second in boys’ doubles with a 4-1 record. After winning their first match, they lost their second and then had to win three straight.

Ursuline’s Samantha Lozon placed second in girls’ singles with a 4-1 record at the Joe Carpenter courts at the Chatham Tennis Club. She had to win four consecutive matches after losing her first.

No other local players placed in the Top 4 in their respective divisions.

Windsor Ste. Cecile won the team title with 13 points, Northern had 11, and Ursuline tied Windsor Riverside for third place with 10 apiece. Chatham-Kent tied for sixth.

Northern’s Chinmay Damani was first in boys’ singles and Lambton Central’s Yarko Zelenchuk was second.

Anjali Atikukke, of Ste. Cecile, won girls’ singles. Justin Yim and Warren Yim, of Windsor Assumption, won boys’ doubles.

Frida Xin and Austin Kohuch, of Windsor Massey, won mixed doubles. Hayden Nurse and Madi Stanley, of Kingsville, were second.

Annika Lam and Valentina Ruede, of Ste. Cecile, were second in girls’ doubles.

The OFSAA championship will be June 3 to 5 in Toronto.
