Somerset County Recieves Over $212,000 Of State Funds For Infrastructure Upgrades – 47abc

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md – Somerset County is receiving over 200,000 dollars as part of a state-wide $13.5 Million Maryland Waterway Improvement Fund.

The projects include the replacement of piers and walkways at the City of Crisfield Depot, Marina facility, safety improvements county-wide, and a fix-up of the Tylerton Harbor at Smith Island

Crisfield officials say the replacement will help to repair storm damage in the town which frequently suffers flooding in its low-lying streets and at its marina.

Crisfield mayor Darlene Taylor says, the project is more than just a fix-up, it’s an upgrade with the goal of turning the town’s marina into a durable, and multi-use space.

“It’s not just repairs, it’s also improvements, what’s going to happen with it is we’re in the process of permitting now, but it will be raised 12 inches,” Taylor said adding “so we’ve raised a foot from where it was previously, which will make it much more resilient for the storms and things that might occur in the future.”

She tells us she hopes to project will fold into existing projects, including converting the Marina to a venue, and restarting ferry service to help with Crisfields economic recovery.
