Horse racing tips: Royal Ascot – ITV Racing Wednesday picks

The second afternoon of action from Royal Ascot is headlined by the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, in which the 2021 Derby winner Adayar and three-time Group 1 winner Luxembourg draw swords.

With support acts including the Queen Mary Stakes, the Duke of Cambridge Stakes and the Queen’s Vase – all Group 2 matches – it is set for another cracking afternoon at Royal Ascot.

Once more, ITV Racing is covering all seven races across two channels from 1.30 to 6.30pm and our racing expert has a race-by-race guide to day two of the meeting.

ITV Racing tips – Royal Ascot, Wednesday June 21

Enda McElhinney has recommendations for all seven races on Wednesday. You can read the analysis behind his selections below.

2.30 Queen Mary Stakes (Fillies’ Group 2, 5f)

The wealth of talent assembled includes Beautiful Diamond, who cost £360k and looked potentially smart on her debut at Nottingham a fortnight ago for last year’s winning trainer Karl Burke. He also saddles Got To Love A Grey and Lady Pink Rose.

Jane Chapple-Hyam’s Yarmouth winner Born To Rock looks a contender in an open race, but RELIEF RALLY is selected for William Haggas and Tom Marquand.

Owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, she started with a win at Goodwood in a race that had substance to it and has since dispatched a promising rival when following up at Salisbury five weeks ago. The Kodiac filly should relish the stiff five furlongs here.

Selection: Relief Rally @ 8/1 with Paddy Power

3.05 Kensington Palace Fillies’ Handicap (Round Course, 1m)

Another fierce puzzle here with a field of 20 engaged. Crystal Caprice, for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore, battles for favouritism with Ralph Beckett’s Tamarama, partnered by Frankie Dettori.

Both have got leading claims, while the unexposed Yerwanthere goes for Joseph O’Brien with James McDonald an eye-catching jockey booking.

LOVE INTEREST was progressing this time last year before struggling in the Sandringham here when never really getting into the race from the rear. She has run exclusively in Listed/Group 3 company since and her October effort over 7f here was decent.

Last month’s Lingfield return, when she went off at 100/1, was a massive task but a mark of 91 back up to the mile here might be interesting for the David O’Meara runner back in a handicap.

Selection: Love Interest @ 33/1 with Paddy Power

3.40 Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Fillies’ & Mares’ Group 2, Straight Course, 1m)

Prosperous Voyage was second in the 1,000 Guineas last season before stunning Inspiral, no less, in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. She got back to winning ways at Epsom in a Group 3 contest last month and comes here with a live chance for Ralph Beckett and Frankie Dettori.

Preference is for JUMBLY, who won the Valiant Stakes on the round course here on her final start for Harry and Roger Charlton last summer before moving to Joseph O’Brien for 1.25 million gns.

She was second to Just Beautiful in a Group 2 contest at The Curragh last month on her stable bow and should be plenty sharper for that. She looks the one to beat with Ryan Moore on board.

Selection: Jumbly @ 9/4 with Paddy Power

4.20 Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Group 1, 1m 2f)

A fascinating collision. Adayar won the 2021 Epsom Derby and comes here after impressing in the Gordon Richards Stakes on his comeback. Charlie Appleby’s colt is a key player as he bids to avenge his Champion Stakes second behind Bay Bridge last season.

The latter couldn’t get past LUXEMBOURG in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh last month and Aidan O’Brien’s colt is now really fulfilling the potential his trainer has always seen in him. He could have folded last time but, as he did in the Irish Champion Stakes last season, he put his heart and soul into it and won the day. He may do so again.

My Prospero has claims going up in trip after a good comeback in the Lockinge Stakes and Mostahdaf is a fair sort, but American raider Classic Causeway will do well to upset these European turf heavy hitters.

Selection: Luxembourg @ 9/4 with Paddy Power

5.00 Royal Hunt Cup (Straight, 1m)

Always one of the toughest tests of the meeting. Frankie Dettori would love some redemption on Reach For The Moon after an anti-climactic defeat in the Hampton Court Stakes here last summer, while Perotto won the Britannia Stakes over course and distance in 2021 and is back in form for new trainer Roger Varian.

Bear Force One, Chasing Aphrodite and Orbaan have chances but Irish raider DUNUM has figures of 11112-12 in the last 13 months and was only pipped on the line in a valuable contest at The Curragh last month. He’s on a career-high mark now but should still raise a challenge.

Selection: Dunum @ 14/1 with Paddy Power

5.35 Queen’s Vase (Group 2, 1m 6f)

Circle Of Fire (Sir Michael Stoute), Chesspiece (Simon and Ed Crisford), Saint George (Andrew Balding) and Peking Opera (Aidan O’Brien) are all likely improvers with decent form in the book but GREGORY is 2-2 after a Haydock novice success in April and readily followed up in Listed company at Goodwood last month.

John and Thady Gosden’s Golden Horn colt powered through the line there after briefly displaying signs of greenness and with Frankie Dettori taking over, he is likely to have plenty more to come now he is upped in trip.

Selection: Gregory @ 7/4 with Paddy Power

6.10 Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed, 5f)

Once more, it’s a fiendish puzzle to close out day two. Barnwell Boy and Johannes Brahms jostle for favouritism for Charlie Johnston and Aidan O’Brien respectively after good debut successes, while Maximum Impact (Alice Haynes) and Up The Manor (Jack Jones) also boast opening wins.

Fandom is a key player for Wesley Ward if lining up, but Hamilton winner GANESHA has plenty of scope for progress for the Philip Makin team and he might be one that can outrun a big price.

Selection: Ganesha @ 33/1 with Paddy Power
