Golf courses remain open through the winter season and many report golfers taking advantage of the weather when snow isn’t on the ground.

While winter takes over Ohio, plans for the upcoming golf season continue with events and announcements for clinics, tournaments and outings.

Ohio Girls Golf Foundation

The OGGF has announced the High School Showcase at Avon Oaks Country Club on July 3. Leading up to the summer tournaments, the OGGF is hosting a series of winter clinics at 1899 Indoor Golf in Canton, The Clubhouse in Beachwood, The Golf Dome in Chagrin Falls and at Judd’s Golf Sim in Avon.

The clinics are open for girls 8 to 18 of all skill levels. Register online at NOPGAJR.bluegolf.com.

Advocating for girls golf, the OGGF provides eight $1,000 foundation scholarships each season at the showcase.

To apply by the March 31 deadline, go to the Ohio Girls Golf Foundation website and complete the form. Girls must be a permanent resident of Ohio, compete in high school golf or local tournaments and demonstrate a financial need.

Southeast fundraiser

Halliday’s Winery in Lake Milton is the site of the planned Roaring 20’s Murder Mystery Dinner set for Feb. 24.

The event will raise funds for the Southeast High School varsity golf teams.

Ticket price is $40 per person and includes dinner, donation and entertainment. Everyone is encouraged to dress in ’20s attire for the best-dressed contest.

The series of 2023 Portage County Amateurs is set to tee off at Windmill Lakes Golf Club, Racoon Hill Golf Club and Sunny Hill Golf Club.

Save the dates for the following events:

• 93rd Portage County Amateur: July 29-30 at Windmill Lakes and Raccoon Hill Golf Courses.
• 53rd Portage County Senior Amateur: Aug. 26-27 at Raccoon Hill and Windmill Lakes Golf Courses.
• 16th Matt Mishler Junior Portage County Amateur: July 24-25 at Windmill Lakes and Sunny Hill Golf Courses.
• 10th Portage County Kids Amateur: July 23 at Sunny Hill Golf Course, Brimfield.

Registration will be available March 1 on PCAGolf.net and at host golf courses.
