‘Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord’ Adds Steam Workshop Mod Support Ahead Of Official Release Date

Released into Steam Early Access almost 8 years after its announcement, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord was an immediate success. The medieval sandbox made good on its promises to expand and improve upon game mechanics in the existing Mount & Blade series and, despite a buggy launch, quickly reached nearly 250,000 concurrent players.

Bannerlord developers TaleWorlds Entertainment have released countless patches to the game to fix bugs and improve in-game systems like diplomacy and AI combat strategy, and vastly improved the multiplayer experience before the game’s full PC and console release on October 25, 2022.

And as of today, Bannerlord fans have something to celebrate in addition to finally capturing that last stronghold of a rival kingdom: Bannerlord now supports the Steam Workshop.

The Steam Workshop provides an incredibly easy way for players to download and install community-made mods directly through Steam. Gone are the days of downloading and unzipping gigabytes of files into a very specific subfolder; the Steam Workshop often makes it as easy as clicking “Subscribe” and booting up your game to see your new content.

Dedicated mod developers have already uploaded their work to Bannerlord’s Steam Workshop, including one that replaces the default in-game map with the entire continent of Europe.

Long-time Mount & Blade fans are surely familiar with mods, as mods for Mount & Blade: Warband range from quality of life and economy tweaks to overhaul mods that completely transform the in-game experience, like A Clash of Kings, which drops the player into the world of Game of Thrones.

It should be noted that mods for Bannerlord existed before on third-party sites like NexusMods, but the Steam Workshop makes for the most seamless mod experience in gaming. Players can probably expect to see most of these mods transferred to the Workshop before too long.

For fans who can’t get enough, mod support adds endless re-playability to the game, and using the Steam Workshop is a truly simple process. With the game’s full release just around the corner, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord players will be drinking from the skulls of their enemies for years to come.
