Farmers in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Tuesday took out a rally here to protest the proposed bulk drug park in Murud and Roha taluka.

Nearly 2,000 farmers participated in the rally, which started from the entry point of Alibag town and headed towards the collector's office, an official said. 

The rally organised by farmers' organisation Shetkari Samiti was stopped midway by the police. 

Addressing the rally, former president of the BJP's south Raigad unit Mahesh Mohite said farmers had been against the bulk drug park project since the beginning.

The Maharashtra government will issue a white paper in the next 30 days on some mega projects going out of the state and if any steps were taken by the previous MVA government to retain them, Industries Minister Uday Samant said here on Tuesday.

The Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis government is under fire from the Opposition which has accused the ruling dispensation of failing to retain big-ticket Vedanta-Foxconn and Tata-Airbus projects in the state. Both projects chose Gujarat over Maharashtra to set up their units.

The Karnataka Police on Tuesday refused to allow Maharashtra leaders into the state through the border checkposts in Belagavi district.

Leaders from Maharashtra were trying to enter Belagavi district in support of the call given by the Maharashtra Ekikarana Samithi (MES) to observe black day on Karnataka Formation Day, which is celebrated on November 1.

Maharashtra GST collection rises to Rs 23, 307 cr in Oct; continues at top spot

Maharashtra has maintained its top slot in the GST collection for October across the country. The state’s GST collection increased to Rs 23,307 crore in October 2022 against Rs 21,403 crore in September 2022, a rise of Rs 1,904 crore. State's GST collection in October 2021 was Rs 19,355 crore.

Across India, the gross GST revenue collected in the month of October 2022 is Rs 1,51,718 crore of which CGST is Rs 26,039 crore, SGST is Rs 33,396 crore, IGST is Rs 81,778 crore (including Rs 37,297 crore collected on import of goods) and Cess is Rs 10,505 crore (including Rs 825 crore collected on import of goods), which is second highest till date.

Maharashtra’s State GST collection was Rs 18,863 crore in August, Rs 22,219 crore in July, Rs 22,341 crore in June, Rs Rs 20,313 crore in May and Rs 27,495 crore in April.

Traffic Police fines 23,547 auto rickshaws, taxis in October for refusing passengers

Mumbai Traffic Police fined a total of 23,547 auto rickshaws and taxis in October for refusing to transport passengers for short-haul travel.

Out of 23,547 cases, 15,395 autorickshaws were fines Rs 50 each and 8,152 taxis were fines Rs 200 each. This year from January to June, 13,340 auto-rickshaws and taxis were fined. In September, 12,432 auto-rickshaws and taxis were fined.

On October 17, the Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP) had issued a statement that said stringent action will be taken on auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers who refuse to accept customers based on the fare and distance.

MMRDA launches longest steel deck on Mumbai Trans Harbour Link

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) achieved a significant milestone on Tuesday as it successfully launched the longest orthotropic steel deck, weighing as heavy as six large-sized aircraft, on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link.

In engineering parlance, a material is orthotropic if its mechanical or thermal properties are unique and independent in three mutually perpendicular directions.

The orthotropic steel deck is a longitudinally stiffened superstructure [part of the bridge that provides the horizontal span] that will carry the vehicular load more efficiantly and it will also improve carrying capacity of the bridge as compare to the concrete superstructure.

Seatbelts mandatory for all car passengers from today

From today, wearing a seatbelt is mandatory for all car passengers. As per Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP) notification, every passenger sitting inside a car will have to compulsorily wear a seatbelt while travelling.

As per the traffic authorities, they will be checking every car to make sure they are wearing a seatbelt.

In case of defaulters, who are found not abiding by the said rules, action will be taken under section 194(B)(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019. As per the section, the defaulters will have to pay a fine of Rs. 1000.

Thane records 43 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 300

As many as 43 new COVID-19 cases have been detected in Maharashtra's Thane district, taking the tally of infections to 7,46,733, a health official said on Tuesday.

With the addition of the latest cases on Monday, the district currently has 300 active COVID-19 cases, he said.

The death toll in the district remained unchanged at 11,965, he said, adding that the recovery count has reached 7,35,174. (PTI)

Maha aarti to resume at Banganga after 2 yrs

The Maha aarti at Banganga will be started again after a gap of two years. This year, it will be held on November 7 at 7 pm.

“In Varanasi there is Ganga Puja and Maha aarti, so we thought why not have it here as well? We were having it regularly every year, except for the last two years,” said Shahsank Gulgule, honorary secretary and holding trustee of the GSB Temple Trust which has been organising Maha aartis at Banganga since 2014.

Banganga is one of the few freshwater tanks in the city. As part of the aarti, over 1,000 diyas will be lit.

Amid the surge of new XBB variant, the State Health Department has now directed medical health officers of all the civic bodies to keep a tab or conduct follow up on those who have recovered from Covid.
