Batman: Caped Crusader, the animated series from Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams is reportedly not moving forward at HBO Max.

The show is among six animated projects, along with family action-comedy Merry Little Batman, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Toons Movie, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Toons Musical, Did I Do That to the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story and The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie (working title) that will no longer be produced by HBO Max.

According to Variety, production on all six series continues, with plans to shop them to platforms besides HBO Max. Warner Bros. Animation is the studio for each, with the exception of The Amazing Word of Gumball, which is being produced by H-B Studios Europe. The decision not to release these series on HBO Max is part of a larger trend as parent company Warner Bros. Discovery largely divests from kids and family content.

As the report shares, after cancelling Gordita Chronicles after one season last month, a spokesperson for HBO Max said, “Live-action kids and family programming will not be part of our programming focus in the immediate future.” Batman: Caped Crusader was given a series order from HBO Max and Cartoon Network 15 months ago and was set to be a reimagining of the Batman mythology.

In addition to Timm and Abrams, Matt Reeves and Ed Brubaker also serve as executive producers on the project and was previously described as "Utilizing state-of-the-art animation techniques and technologies available, Batman: Caped Crusader will once again reinvent Batman and his iconic rogue's gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters, and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world."
