Two people were killed, and two others were injured after a two-vehicle crash involving a DUI near Upper Lake in Lake County on Monday morning, February 12, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred around 6:24 a.m. along Highway 20, east of Witter Springs Road.

Reports indicate that a 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup truck swerved into the opposite lane to pass other vehicles when it slammed head-on with a 2011 Toyota Prius.

The 59-year-old male driver of the Prius and the 44-year-old male passenger of the Nissan were pronounced dead. The Nissan driver and his other passenger suffered major injuries.

The authorities arrested the Nissan driver for DUI before he was transported via airlift to a hospital in Vacaville. Further investigations into the fatal crash are underway.
