A 30-year-old cyclist sustained major injuries after being hit by a vehicle in the San Ysidro neighborhood, San Diego, on Wednesday afternoon, February 7, 2024.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the collision happened around 5:41 p.m. on the east sidewalk of Willow Road.

Authorities stated that a 20-year-old man in a 1996 Honda Accord was driving northbound on 200 Willow Road while the bicyclist was heading southbound, road off the sidewalk, and into the northbound lane. The vehicle then hit the victim head-on.

The bicycle rider sustained an open right femur fracture, a laceration above the right eye, a fractured hand, a concussion, and two teeth were knocked out. The driver and his passengers were not injured.

Police said that DUI was not a factor in the crash. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the authorities at 888-580-8477.
