A 65-year-old woman pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Rialto early Thursday morning, February 1, 2024.

According to the Rialto Police Department, the deadly incident happened at around 5:41 a.m. in the 1400 block of South Riverside Avenue.

RPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team said that the pedestrian, identified as Wanda M., was walking across Riverside Avenue in the crosswalk of Senior Way against a red light when the driver, 22-year-old Jose R., struck her. The victim sustained fatal injuries following the collision.

MAIT then clarified that the driver was on his way southbound and entered the intersection on a green light before the accident occurred. He remained at the scene and promptly cooperated with the authorities.

There is no indication of alcohol or drug impairment in the tragic accident. Potential witnesses are urged to get in touch with the police and assist with the investigation.
