A 23-year-old Costa Mesa woman and a 20-year-old Lake Elsinore man were killed following a two-vehicle head-on collision in Perris on Sunday night, August 20, 2023.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike L., the incident occurred on State Route 74 just west of 7th Street shortly after 11:30 p.m.

A 2008 Honda CRV traveling eastbound on SR-74 veered onto the opposite lane and into the path of the woman’s Nissan Sentra, heading westbound on the same road, resulting in a head-on collision.

While approaching the Honda CRV, the Nissan Sentra was traveling at an unknown speed. It is unknown why the male driver crossed the painted double yellow lines, pending an investigation.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries reported in the crash.

It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in this fatal collision.
