[08-16-2023] Santa Cruz County, CA – 2 People Injured Following Suspected DUI Two-Vehicle Rollover Collision on Highway 1

Two people were injured after a suspected DUI two-vehicle rollover collision in Santa Cruz on Wednesday afternoon, August 16, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Highway 1 near North Branciforte Avenue at around 4:30 p.m.

David B., a 79-year-old Aptos man, was driving a 1996 Acura Integra northbound on the highway when he crashed into a 2015 Toyota Carolla, which was also heading north. As a result, the vehicles flipped over after hitting a metal guardrail. David B., who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his car.

The victim suffered minor injuries, while David B. sustained major injuries. Both drivers were treated at a nearby hospital.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending an investigation.

David B. was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and arrested for felony DUI.
