What To Do After A Car Accident

Preparation is vital because Car Accidents can occur anywhere and at any moment. Those who have been in car accidents understand the need always to be ready. Whether you were hurt or a relative of the person who passed away, doing the following actions will guarantee the security and protection of everyone involved:

  • Stay on the scene and check the condition of the people involved.
  • Move disabled vehicles to the side of the road if possible. To avoid additional collisions, keep your emergency lights on. Wait for law enforcement in a secure location.
  • Notify the police of the accident. Authorities will collect data, document it, and add it to an official record.
  • Exchange insurance and contact information with the other driver(s) involved in the collision. Take photographs of the vehicles, license plates, and other pertinent details.
  • Never admit fault to anyone, including the police. When speaking with a police officer, focus on the specifics of the incident.
  • Seek immediate medical attention. Visit the nearest hospital or a primary care physician.
  • Call California insurers immediately and follow the agent’s instructions when reporting the accident, as they have accident-reporting deadlines.
  • Provide the claims adjuster only with the necessary details. Avoid recording statements or accepting settlement offers from insurance companies before consulting with an attorney.
  • Gather and store all accident-related documentation. Victims should obtain a copy of the police report, information about the other driver, medical bills, injury treatment plans, and other relevant documents.

Reckless Accident Statistics

In the United States, Reckless Driving leads to numerous car crashes and hundreds of fatalities yearly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defines reckless driving as operating a vehicle without consideration for the safety of others.

Estimating the number of persons hurt or killed annually due to irresponsible driving is probably tricky. However, according to AAA, between 2003 and 2007, 56% of all traffic incidents were the result of reckless driving.

Speeding is a significant factor in many fatal car accidents in the US. The problem of drunk driving is still quite prevalent across the nation.
