1. NIA Officials Face Molestation Charges in Bengal After Attack

Following the assault on the National Investigation Agency (NIA) team investigating a 2022 blast case in Bhupatinagar, West Bengal, the district police filed an FIR against the NIA team. The complaint alleges molestation by the officers, with a woman claiming she and her husband were assaulted and her modesty outraged. 

The case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). No arrests have been made yet. The NIA was attacked while probing the December 3, 2022 blast that resulted in three fatalities. A verbal clash has erupted between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the incident, with the BJP labeling it a “state-sponsored attack” orchestrated to obstruct the blast case probe.

2. Modi Accuses TMC of Corruption and Intimidation in Bengal

During a rally in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He accused the party of obstructing central investigative agencies probing corruption cases. As part of his election campaign ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Modi emphasized that the people of West Bengal are weary of the TMC’s corruption and poor governance.

3. CBI Investigates Kerala Student’s Death

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into the death of 20-year-old veterinary student JS Sidharthan in Kerala’s Wayanad. Sidharthan was found dead inside his college hostel bathroom on February 18. 

The FIR against 20 accused has been re-registered, with 11 arrests made so far. The case involves allegations of ragging and torture. The victim’s family believes the perpetrators are affiliated with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and are being protected by the party.

4. AAP Leaders Fast for Kejriwal’s Release

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and supporters have initiated a mass fast in the national capital to protest the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The arrest, linked to the Delhi liquor policy, has sparked nationwide outrage. AAP spokesperson Reena Gupta called for people to join the protest at Jantar Mantar. Kejriwal, along with two other AAP leaders, remains in custody as investigations continue.

5. Rain Relief for Bengaluru After Ugadi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that Bengaluru will experience light to moderate rainfall after the Ugadi festival. This comes as a welcome respite for residents enduring scorching heat over the past month. The rain is expected to start from Ugadi and extend throughout the second week of April, accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms. While the heat wave worsens, Bengalureans can look forward to cooler days ahead.

6. India and Pakistan Accused of Election Meddling in Canada

Canada’s spy agency, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), has alleged that both India and Pakistan attempted to interfere in Canada’s federal elections. In 2021, India was suspected of conducting clandestine activities, including using a proxy agent in Canada. 

Meanwhile, in 2019, Pakistani officials allegedly tried to influence Canadian federal politics. The ongoing federal commission of inquiry into foreign interference is examining these stark assessments. India’s actions were centered on districts with Indo-Canadian voters sympathetic to the Khalistani movement or pro-Pakistan stances. The CSIS emphasizes caution, acknowledging that intelligence may require further investigation.

7. BJP Candidate Detained with Rs. 4 Crore at Tambaram Railway Station

The Election Commission’s flying squad apprehended three individuals at Chennai’s Tambaram Railway Station, carrying seven bags and suitcases containing Rs. 4 crore. The cash allegedly belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate from Tirunelveli and sitting MLA, Nainar Nagendran.

8. Air Force’s Gagan Shakti Drill on Lko-Agra Expressway

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is gearing up for the Gagan Shakti drill, set to unfold on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. The Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) stretch of the highway has been closed from April 1 to 10 for this purpose. 

During this exercise, select fighter jets, helicopters, and military aircraft, including the MiG-21, will demonstrate their prowess. The event occurs approximately every five years, and this year’s showcase promises a spectacular display of air defense readiness and capability.

9. CPM’s Kerala Bank Account Frozen Amid Probe

The Income Tax department has seized the bank account of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) in Kerala’s Thrissur district. The account, containing Rs. 4.8 crore, was not reflected in the party’s annual returns. A recent withdrawal of Rs. 1 crore from the account triggered scrutiny. The CPI(M) State Secretariat condemned the action, alleging political vengeance by the BJP-led Union government during the Lok Sabha elections.

10. Chaos as 120-Ft Temple Chariot Collapses in Bengaluru

During the annual fair of the Huskur Madduramma Temple near Bengaluru, a 120-foot-tall temple chariot collapsed, causing chaos. Thousands of devotees from over 10 villages had gathered for the Anekal festival, where chariots take center stage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but a viral video captured the dramatic moment as the chariot narrowly missed striking an electric pole.
