Modi asserted that Congress’ track record of weakening India’s unity spans 75 years. The island, situated between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, was traditionally used by fishermen from both nations. In 1974, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi accepted Katchatheevu as Sri Lankan territory. Modi’s recent rally in Tamil Nadu reiterated this contentious issue.

5. Dissenting View on Demonetization: Justice Nagarathna

Justice B. V. Nagarathna, part of the 5-judge bench, criticized the legality of the government’s 2016 demonetization move. She highlighted that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) failed to independently assess the withdrawal of ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes, as recommended by the Centre. Her dissent underscores the “unlawfulness” of the notification issued on November 8, 2016, which led to the demonetization of currency notes.
