  1. Amit Shah chairs Manipur peace talks: Union Home Minister Amit Shah took part in several peace meetings with the majority Meitei community and Kuki tribal community in Imphal and Churachandpur yesterday. Meanwhile, the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan ruled out insurgency as the cause, terming it a “clash between two ethnic groups.” And thirteen prominent Meitei sports personalities threatened to return their awards if the central government failed to protect Manipur’s “unity and integrity.”     
  2. Yechury calls opposition parties to support Kejriwal: CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said all opposition parties must keep aside their differences and back Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to fight against the “Services” ordinance. He called the ordinance a brazen attack on federalism and states’ rights.  
  3. MTR begins its wildlife census: A pre-monsoon census to estimate the number of carnivorous animals, their prey base, and vegetation in the Mudhumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) buffer zone in Nilgiris began on Tuesday. The census undertaken by 34 teams comprising field workers and officials for seven days would conclude on June 4.       
  4. Heritage rail gets a modern makeover: The historic Kalka-Shimla Rail, which went on wheels in November 1903, is set to get indigenously designed coaches. The coaches will feature windows up to the roof for a panoramic view of the hills, a mini-pantry, and bio-toilets. 
  5. NCERT to remove Khalistan references from textbooks: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will withdraw Khalistani references in Class XII political sciences texts. The decision comes after a rebuke from the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), terming them misrepresentation of historical facts.                   
  6. SKM to extend support to Wrestler’s protest: The joint platform of farmer bodies, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), has called for a nationwide stir to support wrestlers protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief. SKM said it would hold demonstrations demanding the withdrawal of cases against the protestors and the arrest of WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. 
  7. India to chair virtual SCO meet in July: India has announced it will host the upcoming SCO meet virtually on July 4. The decision comes amid speculations over participation from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. India currently holds the Eurasian group presidency. 
  8. Russian crude import soars: The country’s crude import from Russia soared 14 times in FY23, from $2.2 billion in the previous years to $31 billion. In April, Russian crude remained the top source averaging 1.68 million barrels per day (bpd) as per estimates by Vortexa, the London-based commodity data analysis provider. 
  9. TCS’ work from office rule: Technology major TCS has warned its employees to comply with the company’s new “work from office” policy. In a recent memo sent to the employees, TCS has asked them to work from the office three days a week, adding non-compliance would attract stern action.   
  10. Indian girl Asmi Jain wins Apple’s Swift Student Challenge: Indian student Asmi Jain is one of the winners of the Swift Student Challenge issued by Apple ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023. The 20-year-old girl from Indore built a healthcare app playground that helps strengthen facial and eye muscles.
