Batteries Plus Elevates Joe Malmuth to Chief Franchising Officer

Malmuth will Oversee the Entire Batteries Plus Franchise System, Both Internationally and Domestically

Batteries Plus, a battery, light bulb, key fob and repair Franchise, promoted Joe Malmuth to Chief Franchising Officer. In this new position, he will oversee the battery retailer’s entire franchise system, both internationally and domestically. Malmuth previously served as vice president of franchise development for Batteries Plus and brings more than 15 years of experience to the role. This promotion comes as Batteries Plus continues to grow.

“In the two-and-a-half years since joining Batteries Plus, I have seen the brand grow exponentially. Our growth has been through the addition of new, enthusiastic franchise owners, expansion and development of our current owners and a very successful resale strategy, all of which have helped expand our presence across the country. It has been a very exciting time in our brand’s history,” Malmuth said in a statement.

Joe Malmuth is the new Chief Franchising Officer of Batteries Plus.

A unique business model and stable industry attracted Malmuth to the battery retailer. “Batteries are a needed item for all of us in our country. It does not matter what happens in our economy; people and businesses will always need batteries. Coupled with the technological advancements this industry continues to experience every year, I was excited to be a part of it!”

Since Batteries Plus is a leader in the industry with a proven track record of over three decades of success, Malmuth is “extremely excited to join the franchise development team and continue to lead the growth of this great brand for years to come.”

Malmuth isn’t the only leadership team member to be promoted. Victor Daher is the new vice president of franchise development, and Brandon Mangual has been elevated to managing director of franchise development. Batteries Plus’ leadership team is hopeful for the future of the brand with this trio of promotions.

“Joe, Vic and Brandon are truly top-notch franchise development professionals and their recent promotions are very well deserved,” Jon Sica, Chief Strategy and Development Officer for Batteries Plus, said in a statement. He adds that the “franchise development team has put us on a continued track for another record-breaking year of growth so far in 2022, and we are confident we will end the year on an even higher note.”

In Malmuth’s view, the battery retailer will positively impact the future of franchising. “As our brand continues to grow and explore new avenues and revenue streams for growth, we are extremely poised to bring a very unique and fresh franchise offering to many investors across the country.”

Malmouth adds that the team wants to continue bringing new ideas and innovating the brand’s technology to stay ahead of the curve. “We see ourselves being a household name synonymous with advancement of technologies in the franchise space for years to come.”

Malmuth’s Journey

As a child, Malmuth grew up with a father who owned and operated franchises. Malmuth spent many summers in his father’s business learning the sales and operational side of franchising.

“After graduating college, I knew franchising was definitely my career path, but I wanted to gain experience with other organizations other than continuing to work with my father. I joined a multi-branded franchise group, and the rest is history!”

He became attracted to the franchise development side of franchising early because his “favorite part about the industry is seeing first time business owners that I had put in business succeed; they have always had a dream of being a business owner, operating successful businesses and building a legacy for themselves and their families.”

As Batteries Plus’ vice president of franchise development, Malmuth worked with new franchisees and franchise consultants to expand the brand. He also managed programs that assisted franchisees with facilitating transactions and developing territory. Additionally, he secured deals with franchisees from different backgrounds, including sales, finance, and the food service industry.

Prior to joining Batteries Plus, Malmuth was vice president of franchise relations at My Eyelab, an optical retail franchise. He also worked at United Franchise Group, a corporation that develops franchise concepts, as vice president of franchise development and regional vice president. Malmuth is involved with the International Franchise Association and is a board member with the Titus Center for Franchising at Palm Beach Atlantic University. As a board member, he mentors members of the franchise community and advocates for greater franchisor transparency.

Advice From a Certified Franchise Executive

Malmuth is a Certified Franchise Executive. To him, this designation means being part of a community of like-minded people who share common values and goals. “Sharing ideas and best practices with one another ensures that the world of franchising can continue to grow and transform people’s lives for the better.”

He advises entrepreneurs interested in franchising to do their due diligence. “Do a lot of research prior to even sitting down with any representative of the company you are considering. Read and consume every piece of information possible on the brand, including every page of the FDD.” He adds that reaching out to owners, visiting locations, and speaking to corporate employees ensure an understanding of “every detail of the business to confirm that you are passionate about it and can see yourself being successful within it.”

For franchisors looking to improve their development process, Malmuth advises setting up predetermined steps that ensure all concerns are addressed and questions are answered. “Create these steps as if you were buying your own business. What would you like to see, hear, and experience? For us, transparency is our number one priority. Additionally, setting clear expectations from day one and making sure candidates understand what a day to day in the life of our franchisee looks like are important.”
