GroceryAid Sporting Lunch 2022

GroceryAid Sporting Lunch 2022
16/11/2022

Finger on the Pulse Research (FOTP) were delighted to attend and be major sponsors of the 2022 GroceryAid Sporting Lunch, held at the Intercontinental O2 in London, which raised an impressive total of over £760K.

Having moved to a bigger venue this year, GroceryAid were able to both include more guests from more companies and raise much-needed additional funds.

FOTP’s Sporting Hero:

As a major sponsor, FOTP were delighted to welcome to their table and host Nic Hamilton.  Born with Spastic Diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy, which affects the movement of his leg muscles, Nic was initially a wheelchair user. He endured years of gruelling, painful training so that by the age of 17 he could walk completely unaided. A huge achievement in itself, but this was just the first part of his unwavering determination to become a racing driver.  Not one to be told what he can and cannot do on the basis of his condition, Nic earned a seat in the highly competitive Renault Clio Cup, the entry level to touring car competition and the gateway to motorsport for many future successful drivers. After a high-profile first season, Nic moved to the European Touring Car Cup. Sponsorship and financial issues in this most money-dependent of sports enforced a season’s break on him, but he returned to the track within a couple of years becoming the first disabled driver to compete in the British Touring Car Championship.

It was a true privilege to get to know Nic better on Friday and to spend time with him.  His story during the panel discussions was both powerful and uplifting.  Nic is a charming and very approachable person, with a fascinating background.

Ranging from Mental Health and Emotional Support to Financial and Practical Support, GroceryAid has been supporting people in the industry for over 160 years.

Whilst GroceryAid run a range of fund-raising events throughout a year, the Sporting Lunch is a highlight of their Calendar, where the Sporting Legends join forces with the Grocery Industry, to raise funds for this worthy cause.

This year, the event welcomed an even bigger line-up of Sporting Heroes, including, Sir Jason Kenny CBE, Dame Laura Kenny DBE, Jonny Bairstow, Nic Hamilton, David Seaman MBE, Fara Williams MBE, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and many more.

The Sporting Lunch culminated in raising more than £760K which will enable the Charity to continue its vital support for colleagues in the industry.  As always, a spectacular event, and we are already looking forward to attending the next one!

Some of the key highlights for 2022:

  • A truly amazing line-up of over 30 Sporting Heroes – it was incredible to be in the same room with these iconic superstars
  • A new and bigger venue which enabled GroceryAid to include more guests and raise much-needed additional funds
  • 1,600 guests from nearly 300 companies
  • Event hosts were Natalie Pinkham and Martin Bayfield – the pair of “Beauty and the Beast” brilliantly complimented each other’s skills
  • Fascinating and insightful panel discussions – the one that stood out for us was focusing on overcoming adversity and building resilience, featuring Nic Hamilton
  • Helen’s story, https://www.groceryaid.org.uk/our-stories/helens-story/, shared at the event was a very moving and clear example of how GroceryAid offers practical support that saves lives
