Finger on the Pulse Research releases the results for the inaugural HR Pulse

Taking a look at the key factors impacting HR teams across the UK, FOTP Research conducted the 1st wave of a tracking study to monitor how HR teams responsible for engagement, recruitment, L&D and, increasingly, ED&I are coping with the pressures on their function from their businesses and the current challenges of Covid and Brexit.

The overall HR Pulse Score for the 1st wave is 60.4pts. This represents a relatively solid sentiment amongst nearly 200 HR professionals who supported the survey.

When we focus on what’s driving this:

  • More than half of the respondents think their company’s workforce is likely to grow over the coming 12 months, suggesting businesses are feeling more confident as we exit the cycle of lockdowns and restrictions seen over the last 18 months.
  • There is concern about the level of employee turnover, with 1 in 3 suggesting that it is increasing.

“Retaining current staff” is seen as the number 1 immediate concern for HR professionals, with employees looking for higher paid jobs and the flexibility to join businesses based further away from their home, as more companies embrace remote working.

“Employee Wellbeing and Mental Health” has been identified as the top strategic priority for HR Professionals.  Whilst the results confirm that most companies have got policies/strategies in place to support their colleagues, the increase in remote working makes it harder to identify and manage individual wellbeing.  In addition, having sufficient resources and time available to provide Wellbeing and Mental Health support was another barrier.

FOTP Research plan to undertake this research every 6 months, to keep track of the pressures/challenges and trends for HR Professionals.
