European Electric Van and Truck Fleet to Receive Over Billion Euro Investment from Amazon

In order to accelerate its efforts to become carbon-neutral, Amazon.com Inc announced that it will spend more than 1 billion euros ($974.8 million) over the next five years on Electric vans, trucks, and low-emission package hubs throughout Europe.

Additionally, according to the retailer, the investment was made to promote innovation in the transportation sector and encourage the development of more public charging stations for EVs.

The investment will enable the US online retailer’s electric van fleet in Europe to more than triple from 3,000 vehicles to more than 10,000 by 2025.

The business did not specify how much of its European last-mile delivery fleet is electric currently, but it did state that its 3,000 zero-emission vehicles delivered more than 100 million packages in 2021.

Amazon also stated that it plans to buy more than 1,500 electric heavy goods vehicles in the next years, which will be utilized for “middle-mile” transportation to package hubs.
