Strava Challenge
To keep everyone motivated in the colder months, we have just run our Winter exercise challenge across our three offices. Placement was determined on minutes of exercise completed in the month of June and we are delighted to announce the following winners:

A total of 19,063 minutes of exercise were recorded in the month
(317.72 hours!), an average of 10.5 hours per day. 16 different
sports/exercise activities were completed across the month.

Great to catch up with our clients and network at the NSW Minerals Council HSEC Conference. Really powerful sessions on a range of critical topics, such as the importance of health and safety and mental fitness. The environmental and communication sessions were also highlights. Well done NSW Minerals Council for another great event!

Industry Update
The Australian Government has announced 10 release areas under the 2022 Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage Release, offshore of the Northern Territory, Western Australia, the Territory of the Ashmore and Cartier Islands, and Victoria.
Applicants are now able to bid on the new release areas up until Thursday, 2 March 2023.
The National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator has published a series of guidelines and factsheets that should be referred to by applicants looking to make bids on the new release areas, along with relevant provisions of the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 (Cth).

Industry Update
Yesterday’s decision by the WA Mining Warden in relation to True Fella Pty Ltd v Pantoro South Pty Ltd has the potential to impact the validity of exploration licences and exploration licence applications across the State. It provides a good example of the increasing regulatory uncertainty faced by industry and the importance of a robust administrative framework.
We’re hoping to see a formal response from the Minister and DMIRS to find out what the decision means for security of tenure in WA relatively soon.

Industry Event – SMEDG
It was a pleasure to attend the SMEDG 50th Golden Jubilee conference yesterday to celebrate the groups’ 50 year anniversary. Hetherington was delighted to sponsor students from the UNSW to attend the event.
Tamara Woods and Ashlee Sutherland had a great time at the event, and we look forward to celebrating SMEDG’s next milestone.
NSW Women in Mining Awards
