India has almost Eradicated Poverty; Are we going in the right direction

The problem of Poverty in India is nothing new. Many people have been spending their lives facing a lot of hardships while living in the slums.

Having said that, the conditions have been gradually improving, and things are not the same as they were a decade ago. The consistent growth of India's GDP has always impressed a lot of investors across the globe.

And apart from that, India has also dealt with the issues regarding stable electricity and clean drinking water in a lot of Rural areas.

The Role of the Indian Government In This Fight Against Poverty

The poverty-stricken areas have always grabbed the attention of higher authorities, and the Indian Government has been actively participating in taking initiatives to give some form of relaxation to the people living in extreme conditions.

While we are on the topic, there are some initiatives that will be worth mentioning:-

1. Saansad Aadarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY):-

This program was launched in October 2014, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in response to rising poverty rates. The program's overall goal is to improve the living conditions of all the citizens, especially in rural areas.

2. National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM):-

This program was launched in 2011, by the Ministry of Rural Development. The primary goal of this initiative is to provide a stable monthly income to the people from the poverty-stricken areas in India. This program was founded on the notion that persons living in poverty had hidden skills and potential.

3. Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM):-

Similar to NRLM, this program was also created to give self-employment opportunities to the rural areas, however,, this initiative is much more structured than the previous one.

There are three sorts of programs available through this project. To begin with, it prepares newcomers to the labor market. Second, it allows employees to improve their skills. Third, it allows individuals to train themselves having either formal or non-formal skills. This will allow the people to choose their own field, and secure a stable monetary revenue.

Immediate Measures That Should be Taken To Fight Poverty:-

While the conditions of poverty in India have slightly improved, we still have a long way to go. In the fight against poverty, there are certain aspects that require more attention from the higher authorities:-

1. Education:-

Even in this era, the overall literacy rate in India is not looking very good. Sure, states like Kerala, Delhi,, and Mumbai have shown great promise in the field of education, but the condition hasn't changed much among the rural parts of the country. In fact, casual labor provides income to more than 51% of the rural population. There needs to be more awareness about the benefits of education, and people from all parts of the country should be given equal opportunities to educate themselves, so they can choose a secure future for themselves.

2. Infrastructure:-

We can't blame the uneducated population, as India is already lacking an adequate amount of basic infrastructures such as universities, healthcare, toilets, power sources, and so on. The concerned authorities should consider investing in the country's infrastructure, which will also improve the overall conditions of the surrounding areas. If we can properly meet these basic requirements, only then can we look forward to building an atmosphere for business development and stable revenue sources.

3. Skill Development:-

Nowadays most industrial sectors are looking for skilled laborers and workers. The concerned authorities must create new initiatives to help people learn fundamental skills that will assist them in finding work. It is also critical to develop vocational and academic skills in order to alleviate poverty in the country.

The Indian government has indeed taken some big initiatives before to eradicate unemployment, but it's still not enough to meet the requirements of the booking population of India.

Final Thoughts:-

In the current era, the conditions of poverty are seeing a small ray of hope, as the poverty rates are slowly dropping all across the country.

Having said that, it's just the start. We have continued to do our part, and the concerned authorities need to bring in more reforms, to see a remarkable change in the next few decades. You obviously can't expect to completely eradicate poverty from a country with a population of 150 crores overnight. It will take time, but we are surely going in the right direction!
