ROAM Unveils First Of Its Kind ‘Made in Kenya’ Electric Shuttle Bus, The Move

Roam has today announced the launch of the Made in Kenya, fully electric, Roam Move Shuttle Bus, setting the tone for the electric revolution happening in Africa right now.

ROAM, an innovative Kenyan electric vehicle (EV) enterprise, has unveiled its latest creation, the Move—an all-Electric Shuttle Bus that stands as a groundbreaking achievement in Kenya’s automotive industry.

The Move is a marvel of eco-friendliness, designed to offer urban and rural communities a comfortable and efficient transportation solution with zero emissions. Powering its eco-conscious journey is a formidable 170 kWh battery pack that provides an impressive range of up to 200 kilometers on a single charge.

With the capacity to comfortably accommodate up to 51 passengers, the Move boasts ergonomic seating, ample aisle space, and a user-friendly low-floor entry for seamless accessibility. Safety has not been compromised either, as the bus comes equipped with a suite of advanced safety features, including a collision warning system, lane departure warning system, and automatic emergency braking system.

ROAM’s collaborative efforts with local entities, such as Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers (KVM), Associated Vehicle Assemblers (AVA), and East African Portland Cement (EAPCC), have played a pivotal role in bringing the Move to life. The assembly of this groundbreaking vehicle takes place at KVM’s state-of-the-art facility in Thika, Kenya.

The introduction of the Move marks a monumental turning point for Kenya’s transportation sector. As the first all-electric shuttle bus to be entirely manufactured in Kenya, it underscores the nation’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. Notably, the Move is poised to foster local job creation and stimulate the growth of Kenya’s burgeoning EV industry.

Beyond its environmental and economic merits, the Move presents numerous advantages compared to conventional diesel-powered shuttle buses. These electric vehicles operate more quietly, boast cleaner emissions, and demand less maintenance, rendering them an attractive choice for both operators and passengers.

ROAM is gearing up to deploy the Move on various routes across Kenya in the upcoming months, and there are exploratory endeavors underway to export this innovative bus to other African nations.

The arrival of ROAM’s Move signifies a momentous achievement in Kenya’s transportation sector, underscoring the nation’s dedication to combating climate change while demonstrating its prowess in the field of EV technology and commitment to sustainable development.
