Here is the updated list of trade occupations eligible for Express Entry Certificate of Qualification

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated the list of trades eligible for the new Express Entry Certificate of Qualification. The new list is effective from September 8, 2023, and includes 101 occupations.

What has been updated in the Express Entry Certificate of Qualification List?

The IRCC in the latest list has updated the list of eligible occupations to a total of 101 occupations. You will not need any prior work experience in these occupations but rather require a Certificate of qualification for any of the specified occupations.

What is a Certificate of Qualification?

The Certificate of Qualification proves that a person is qualified to work in a specific skilled trade in Canada. This means that they have passed a certification exam and meet all the requirements to practice their trade in that province or territory.

How to obtain a Certificate of Qualification?

Each province and territory in Canada has its own certification process and certificate of qualification requirements. This certificate is issued by the body that governs trades in a Canadian province or territory or by a federal authority.

To get a Certificate of Qualification, you

  • will likely have to physically go to the specific province or territory to write the certification exam
  • may need an employer in Canada to give you training and work experience before you are allowed to write the exam

Who can apply for a Certificate of Qualification?

If you are already in Canada with a valid Express Entry profile, you are eligible to apply for a Certificate of Qualification. You can also create an Express Entry profile and enroll in one of the skilled trades programs.

Benefits of obtaining a Certificate of Qualification

A certificate of qualification awards up to 50 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points to an Express Entry profile. Also, you don’t need a job offer from a Canadian employer to earn these points.
