Veteran investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed Akasa Air on Friday (July 22) said it will start commercial flight operations on August 7. According to the report, Akasa Air will operate its first service on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route using Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The flight between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will be started on the first day of operation.

The other cities to be added in the first phase are Kochi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru. The airline will offer 56 weekly flights within 10 days of operation. The airline announced in a statement that ticket sales have begun for the 28 weekly flights it would run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad beginning on August 7 and between Bengaluru and Kochi beginning on August 13.

  • Enter your departure and travel details (one-way or round trip). The flight and fare options will be displayed on your screen
  • Enter passenger(s) information
  • Choose your preferred payment option, and complete the process

First, Akasa Air will begin commercial operations with its two 737 MAX aircraft. Boeing has delivered one Max plane and another is due for delivery later this month. Vinay Dube, founder, and chief executive officer of Akasa Air, said: “We are very excited to finally be able to offer up our flights for sale. We are also excited to announce our product which promises to be unlike anything experienced in the category thus far.”

“Our network strategy is focused on establishing a strong pan-India presence and providing linkages from metro to tier-2 and tier-3 cities across the country,” Praveen Iyer, co-founder, and the chief commercial officer said. Akasa Air will offer its customer’s fusion cuisine, farm-inspired and plant-based offerings, pasta, Vietnamese rice rolls, hot chocolate, and a year-round festival menu are some of the key dishes that will be available at Café Akasa.
