Coinbase, the leading US-based crypto exchange, is set to introduce its Ethereum Layer 2 solution called “Base” on the mainnet. According to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Base aims to onboard the next billion users to the blockchain by offering effective tools for creating a wide range of Web3 products.

Coinbase Accused of Copying Shiba Inu’s Summer Campaign

Shytoshi Kusama, the lead developer of Shiba Inu, expressed his reaction to Coinbase’s Onchain Summer campaign, pointing out some similarities and suggesting that Coinbase might have drawn inspiration from the Shiba Inu community’s ideas.

Kusama responded to an update from Armstrong, stating, “If it isn’t a shadowcat, it’s a copycat.” This remark came after Armstrong shared that he utilized the Base bridge, which was launched recently while teasing Coinbase’s upcoming Onchain Summer initiative.

As per the leading exchange, the celebratory occasion is scheduled to commence on August 9, coinciding with the launch of Base’s mainnet. The announcement mentioned that the event will span over several weeks and feature a diverse array of activities, including art exhibitions, musical performances, and gaming events.

Summer of Shibarium

Last month, the lead developer of Shiba Inu introduced the “Summer of Shibarium” campaign as a lead-up to the mainnet launch of Shibarium, an L2 scaling solution.

Furthermore, Kusama suggested that Coinbase took inspiration from the Shiba Inu ecosystem with its own “Onchain Summer” initiative. Despite the similarity in names and concepts, the specific activities involved in each campaign differ significantly.

It’s worth noting that the Summer of Shibarium is currently in progress, and the team has already released several exciting updates in preparation for the Shibarium mainnet launch. Among the notable developments are the Shibarium Beta Bridge and the launch of Shibarium Youtube.
