1974 Porsche Targa Street Sleeper Build

1974 Porsche Targa Street Sleeper Build

We recently had the opportunity to perform a major overhaul on this 1974 Porsche Targa.  Our client wanted outstanding power and performance like no other, so over the next several months we stripped out the drivetrain and suspension to build an ultimate street sleeper.

Beginning the motor, we chose to convert the 2.7 liter flat six to a 3.4 liter powerhouse.  Here is the list of parts that were installed during the rebuild:
Case machining
Cylinder Head Reconditioning and Valve Job
Oil Pump Port and Polish
Nickies Piston and Cylinder Set to convert to 3.4L
Carillo Rods
New Bearings
ARP head Studs
Web Billet 464/465 Camshafts
All New Seals and Gaskets
Powder Coated Engine Tin
Full Ignition Replacement
Spec Stage 2 Clutch Kit
Fidanza Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel

Webber Carb Recondition :
Throttle shafts honed and rebushed
Phenolic Carb Spacers

To keep temperatures cool during the extreme Florida heat, we added oversized oil coolers and custom fabricated oil lines running along the body length of the vehicle which included:

Complete Elephant Racing Oil Cooler Kit
Front RSR Style Oil Cooler
Fender Mount Oil Cooler
Brass Finned Oil Lines to Front

The suspension was completely stripped out of the vehicle, replace by a full coil-over suspension, sway bars, trailing arms, bushings and more to add serious grip to high-spirited driving on or off the course.  The suspension components included:

Eibach Performance Sway Bar Kit
Front and rear larger diameter sway bar with adjustable links
New Sway Bar Bushings

Elephant Racing Street Performance Suspension Kit
Von Shocks Coilover Conversion Kit
Quick Change Front Upper Strut Brace System
Front Camber Plate Monoball Cartriges
Front De-Cambered Ball Joints
Turbo Tie Rods
Front PolyBronze Control Arm Bearings
Low Friction Control Arm Mounts
Rear Spring Plate Poly Bronze Bearings
Rear Spring Plate Reinforcement and Shock Tower Kit
Trailing Arm Monoball Cartridges

At this point there was no stopping the performance upgrades; and certainly not the outdated stock brake system.  So we upgrade the old components with a custom Renn Haus Brake Package, that included:

Renn Haus Brake Conversion Kit:
Boxster Drilled Rotors Front and Rear
Boxster Fixed Calipers Front and Rear
Hawk HPS Street Pads
Fiske Forged Wheels
BF Goodrich G Force Sport Comp 2 Tires

Last but not least where a lot of small details including LED projector headlamps, a Renn Shift Performance Short Shifter with Stomski Precision Shift Coupler.  Needless to say this car is a real street sleeper.  Click here to check out the video.
