Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, has the right to contest extradition to the US

The founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, had some success when he attempted to challenge the extradition ruling signed in 2022 by home secretary Priti Patel, according to a High Court in the United Kingdom.

Prosecutors claim that war crimes and secret material released by WikiLeaks put the lives of those whose names were not concealed in jeopardy and who ought to face legal proceedings in US courts in peril, as the BBC reported.

In February 2024, the creator of WikiLeaks filed an appeal against the extradition.

In light of his right to free speech, the ruling by two senior judges permits Assange to contest the guarantees made by Washington regarding his next trial in the United States.

The 52-year-old Assange’s lawyers embraced one another and insisted that the case had political motivations.

More than ten years after his website disclosed top-secret military information exposing US war crimes in 2010 and 2011, there was opposition to his extradition.

Now that he’s in Belmarsh Prison, Assange has a few months to get ready to file a formal appeal with the UK.

According to Assange, an Australian national, the US was committing war crimes, which he made public in 2010. The journalist’s fans rejoiced upon hearing the good news.

It would be a “decisive” day in the lengthy legal struggle, his wife Stella Assange told the news source.

Regardless of the judges’ decisions, his wife went on to say that she would “fight on until Julian is free”.

“One of the largest compromises of classified information in the history of the United States” is the reason the US has been trying to extradite Assange, according to the Department of Justice.

Based on available information, civilians were killed by US military action in Afghanistan during unreported events.

“This case is the revenge of that country against openness and accountability,” said Assange’s wife.
