Imran writes to Qazi to request justice for PTI

Imran Khan, the imprisoned founding chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), wrote Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa a letter on Saturday pointing out seven important issues that he believed required immediate attention from the top judge and court in order to protect the rule of law and uphold the supremacy of the Constitution in the nation.

The former prime minister has written to the CJP pleading with them to investigate the Bahawalnagar incident, follow up on the letter from six high court judges, fix the petition for an independent investigation into the events of May 9, ask questions about Commissioner Rawalpindi’s statement about poll-rigging, take up petitions related to the rigging of the general elections on February 8, and look into the allocation of reserved seats in national and provincial assemblies.

The PTI leader cited the words of one of the greatest and most influential scientists of all time, Albert Einstein, and reminded CJP that the nation is watching him while calling attention to the seven issues. “The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing,” Einstein said.

Through the letter, Khan informed CJP Isa that, during his tenure, Pakistan’s constitutional supremacy and rule of law have deteriorated to unprecedented levels, leading to the “enactment of the primitive doctrine that might is right” and the slow emergence of the “law of the jungle.”

“Any civilized order in the world would be fatal if the foregoing situation prevailed,” Imran said, “and if our superior judiciary, with your good self at its helm, would not meaningfully intervene as the custodian of the Constitution and the ultimate arbiter of justice.”

He then brought up seven issues for CJP Isa’s consideration, stating that some were subjudice matters involving petitions that were already pending in the Supreme Court and others involved situations that obviously required immediate intervention at the judiciary’s own motion, but that “it has so far been in vain” in each case.
