Extreme weather wreaks havoc on Pakistan, with at least 17 deaths in K-P

Pakistan is suffering greatly as a result of the ongoing, intense rain and snowfall; in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, at least 17 persons have been confirmed dead in mudslides and roof collapses. Some regions of the nation have also been affected by the unfavorable weather, resulting in fatalities, blocked roads, and interruptions to daily life.

Rescue Director General (DG) Peshawar in K-P stated that rain-related occurrences in the Khyber district resulted in the deaths of five children, one lady, and one man, and the injuries of five others. There have also been reports of roof collapse incidents in Bajaur, Lower Dir, and Peshawar, which sadly resulted in the deaths of people and livestock.

The Rescue DG emphasized the difficulties presented by the roof collapse accidents and expressed profound sorrow over the incalculable suffering endured by the afflicted individuals.

Three people lost their lives in Lower Dir as a result of a mudslide that buried a house. Rescue personnel arrived quickly, gathering the deceased and taking the injured to the hospital.

The Khyber district had rain and snowfall for the third day in a row, flooding low-lying areas and making daily life extremely tough for the locals.

There are unfavorable weather conditions outside of K-P. Unpredictable weather patterns are having an impact on the entire country, from Lahore to Balochistan, Karachi, and the Northern Mountainous Regions.

A ‘rain emergency’ was proclaimed by the authorities in Karachi because of the continuous unpredictability of the weather, and in Lahore, light rain was observed in several places, including Gulberg, Lahore Cantonment, and Mall Road. There were reports of downpours in several Punjabi cities, including Kasur, Muridke, Phoolnagar, Sharaqpur, and Jhang; these cities also suffered property damage and injuries.

Due to the serious damage to the drainage system and rescue infrastructure caused by the excessive rain, Gwadar’s population sought shelter elsewhere. Fourteen hours of intense rain caused river and canal levels to rise in Sibbi and the surrounding districts. The emergency rescue teams were asked to be ready for any unlucky circumstance by the irrigation department, which issued a high alert.

There have been reports of sporadic rain and snowfall in the northern mountainous regions, especially Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), which has led to worries about landslides and road blockages caused by the snow.

People are urged to use caution as the nation deals with these unusual weather circumstances. When the country comes together to confront the challenges presented by this onslaught of extreme weather, emergency services are on high alert, prepared to respond to any unfortunate incident.
