According to a July 2018 Gallup poll, 63 percent of PTI voters claimed they would not vote if Imran Khan were not the party’s chairman.
“Would you vote for such a party if Imran Khan is not elected chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaf but the party still stands in the election?” was the survey’s question.

Imran Khan is no longer the PTI chairman due to his conviction in the Toshakhana case. The Islamabad High Court’s ruling to reject the PTI founder’s appeal to have the trial court’s conviction in the Toshakhana case suspended is more detrimental to Khan and his party.
Imran Khan will not be able to run in the future general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024, as a result of the IHC ruling. Though given the short amount of time and the already publicized election date, the PTI is still eligible to file an appeal with the highest court.
When contacted by The News, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan stated that there would be little time left for the Supreme Court to rule in Imran Khan’s favor if the election calendar remained unchanged. Still, he wasn’t certain it would.
According to Barrister Gohar, the PTI and its legal experts think Imran Khan can still run in the elections because the conviction in the Toshakhana case has been suspended along with the jail. However, the majority of legal experts disagree, maintaining that a term suspension does not revoke a conviction.
The former prime minister had petitioned the IHC to correct its August 28 order and to suspend the trial court’s August 5 ruling. In August of this year, Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Humayun Dilawar convicted Khan guilty of fraud in the Toshakhana case and sentenced him to three years in prison and a fine of Rs100,000.
He was found guilty of abusing his authority as prime minister to sell state presents that he had accepted from foreign dignitaries while on international tours, totaling more than Rs140 million ($490,000).
