Understanding the unreal expectations Janhvi had been tied to, she recently shared how she made sure to take no help from her mother, Sridevi while stepping into the industry – a decision she has now come to regret. During an interview with Agenda Aaj Tak, Janhvi spoke about her mother and late actor’s legacy and how she used to feel that she had an ‘unfair advantage’ being her daughter.
“I was so conscious that I wanted to stay aloof from my mother when I was doing my first film (Dhadak) because people were saying that I got my first film because I am Sridevi’s daughter,” the actor stated in Hindi. I left for another vacation, believing I wouldn’t need her assistance.
When I thought, “How many people have access to Sridevi Kapoor, who is the best actor to come out of India? I used to feel as though I had an unfair advantage, a trump card. I used to think that even though I already had an unfair advantage, taking her counsel would make it much worse.
Since I am her daughter, I am unable to avoid it. I regret now realizing that she was desperate to be on the set with me, to support me as a mother, and that I took people too seriously.
I also refused to let her. It’s one of my biggest regrets, in my opinion, because there are moments when I wish I could have just said, “Mumma, I have a shoot. Please come quickly.” Perhaps she would have attended.”
The Bawaal actor continued, saying, “I believe I have now accepted that. These days, I take great pride in being my parents’ daughter. The fact that Janhvi Kapoor is Sridevi’s daughter makes it impossible for anyone to have a moral discussion about it.
Janhvi’s Sister Khushi Kapoor’s Novel
Janhvi discussed her sister Khushi Kapoor’s novel The Archies and offered guidance to her in the same session. Janhvi made the following statement regarding her sister Khushi: “She [Khushi] did such a wonderful job at being honest.” In our conversation, I advised her to be ready for hatred while also remembering to take care of herself. I wish I had heard this from someone. I wish someone had advised me to try focusing on the individuals who appreciate and like me because it’s always simpler to believe the negative.
Janhvi continued, saying, “Believing someone becomes simpler when they say something negative about you. It requires a great deal of self-assurance to believe someone when they say the correct thing.
Sometimes, my sister and I ask a lot of questions about ourselves. “Don’t lose yourself, don’t be jaded because you’ve been very honest,” I advised her. Her performance struck me as being genuine and full of innocence. She wasn’t attempting to brag, and it’s so hard to be this genuine in front of the camera.
