Dunki, Rajkumar Hirani’s eagerly awaited film starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is scheduled to open in theaters on December 21 in time for the holiday season. It looks to be a visual treat for moviegoers. The official trailer for the movie, Dunki: Drop 4, which transports viewers to 1995’s charming town of Laltu, is now available. The film is hailed as a touching story of friendship and dreams.

The famous person himself posted the trailer to Instagram along with the caption, “I began this story in Laltu. I’ll wrap it up with my pals. The trailer for Dunki will take you on a trip that started with Raju Sir’s idea. It will transport you on a crazy journey of friendship, the sorrow and humor of life, and a longing for one’s hometown and family.”

Shah Rukh’s character, Hardy, is shown in the freshly released trailer standing on the edge of a train, establishing the tone for an engrossing story. Hardy introduces his pals, Mannu (Taapsee Pannu), who is well-known for her steadfast support of Hardy against people who make fun of him for his bad English, and Sukhi (Vicky Kaushal), who struggles with learning the language. The trio’s friendship gives the plot a lighthearted and cozy touch.

Boman Irani arrives as their English instructor, promising to provide them with a level of instruction that will prepare them for life overseas. Hardy and Sukhi use the British reign in India as an analogy to justify their desire to move abroad despite linguistic hurdles, highlighting the fact that language is not a barrier to achievement. The friends’ dangerous journey—which includes crossing borders, overcoming obstacles, and even using firearms in times of peril—is seen in the trailer.

The most fascinating surprise, though, is when Shah Rukh first appears in the trailer, 25 years in the future, looking like an older Hardy. Wearing a grey beard and a T-shirt with stripes in yellow and blue, Shah Rukh plays an elderly character in a race. This is his second representation of an elderly person after Vikram Rathore in Atlee’s Jawan earlier this year.

Dunki looks to be a moving examination of the journey taken by four friends to fulfill their aspirations of seeing the world. The film skillfully and poignantly brings together a variety of stories, drawing inspiration from real-life situations.
