Anwaarul Haq Kakar, the caretaker prime minister, indicated on Wednesday that there will be no postponement of the general elections and that they would be announced and held on schedule.

The PM’s move comes despite rising calls from various quarters for the poll date to be announced right now.

The next general elections will be place in the final week of January, over three months after the constitutional deadline, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which made the announcement last month. However, the commission once more withheld a concrete date.

The elections were supposed to take place in November, but they were postponed because new constituency lines were drawn as a result of a recent census. The ECP failed to provide a specific date for the voting, which is thought to be essential to save a faltering economy.

Two major Political Parties, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have been putting pressure on the ECP to set a date for the general elections ever after the dissolution of the legislatures last month.

“I don’t see any chance (of an election delay). I’m not at all confused at all. In an interview with a private television channel, the prime minister stated, “I believe the elections will be called and held on schedule.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to holding free and fair elections and noted that all registered Political parties were entitled by law and the constitution to conduct campaigning, mobilise the populace, and win support from the general public.

He stated that the government would not be held accountable if someone were to be legally disqualified from the political process, an obvious reference to PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

In response to a query, he stressed the importance of competent law enforcement, noting that his government had put the law into existence to target illegal money companies and hoarders with the help of military leadership. He also urged the development of civic institutions’ capabilities for law enforcement.

According to the prime minister, for there to be democracy in the nation, a democratic system must be established inside the political parties.

In response to a different question, PM Kakar stated that he had spoken with various political figures before to taking office but had never considered joining any party, although having the legal right to do so as a citizen.

Rejecting the claims that the caretaker administration is biassed in favour of the PML-N, he said that political parties frequently generate such perceptions prior to elections in an effort to get support from the general population.

The prime minister praised General Syed Asim Munir’s leadership skills and declared that Pakistan’s future was in skilled and devoted hands.

In response to a query, he stated that he had no issues with the military’s leadership and that the caretaker administration was ultimately responsible for making decisions.

When asked if PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif had suffered injustice, the prime minister responded that concerns regarding court interventions were often brought up since different parties had different perspectives on the relevant issues.

Regarding the cypher issue, Kakar claimed that it belonged to the government and that it was improper to use it for purposes other than those that were authorised by law; however, the court has not yet made this determination.

Finally, he stated that his support for PTI in the 2013 and 2018 elections was not intended to criticise the GHQ but rather to address Pakistan’s problems with infrastructure, the economy, foreign policy, and the country’s worldwide reputation.
