Hedge Fund Forum
Short bio: Since graduating business school, I have worked for a large, mutli Strategy Hedge Fund. I made partner three years ago and run a Fundamental Long/Short Equity group. Seen a lot of misconceptions about hedge funds and investing in general. This is a throwaway account and if my partners, let along our investors, found out they would be horrified. Anyway, ask me anything!

Why does chipotle make me shit blood? Serious question I've been struggling with this for years.
How does your firm structure work and how are earnings split amongst partners?
Thoughts on the MBA? How has it helped you?
What is the biggest mistake you've made as Partner (or even before that) and what did you learn from it?
Do you lead a team? If so, what did you learn about leadership that you didn't know before?
Thanks
Feeling a bit lost. At an UMM fund but see that really top L/S Fundamental groups recruit from MF PE. Not sure if I should get an MBA because I know HF employers not that interested in MBA. Or, maybe the time is better spent lateraling to a MF (they are on a hiring spree) to do a couple years before going to a top fund.
I worry so much about ending up at a "meh" shop where I don't actually learn a process - how can you know if you'll have a good Analyst experience since there's so little info about HFs (unlike PE where it's all brand name?). I'd be willing to try a younger / no-name fund if I knew the answer to this question.

How do you think about analyst talent? Do you value analysts strictly on absolute $ that they have generated for independent ideas? And at what point do you start thinking about getting rid of someone? If someone was covering energy and has underperformed because energy is structurally tougher, do you hold that person to the same bar as someone covering TMT for example?
