Best Banners

With a multitude of great characteristics that come with a custom Banner, it’s most definitely worth looking into as a purchase for many different wants or needs. Among the topics we will cover in this article:

  • different types of banners
  • their effectiveness for events and business
  • ease of displaying them

Banners & Events:

Do you want to really ramp up a birthday party, graduation party, baby shower, or other? A Custom Banner will undoubtedly do that for you, and more importantly, the person for whom you purchase the banner. It’s a stout statement that tells the celebrated one that you put some extra thought into their extra special day. A banner adds flair, style, and punch to nearly any event you can think of. And the surprise element of one will make the graduate or expecting mother glow even more than they might already have been.

Banners & Business:

If you think banners are only good for events, know the power of them when it comes to the business world. A custom banner is not a TV commercial that is gone in 30 seconds. It is a physical piece of promotion that can live for several years. You can make passersby aware that you’ve started a new company with a “Grand Opening” banner ad. You can pull people into your place of business with a banner displayed right outside your shop. You can display others inside where you have a product on sale or where there’s merchandise you want to push. Lastly, the cost per impression is far below most any other form of advertising. Cost per impression is an equation that helps you determine what you’re paying for the views you receive. As an example, let’s say you purchased a standard vinyl banner for $35 and you garner 5,000 views from said purchase. The math to understand your CPI goes like this:

$35 (cost) ÷ 5,000 (views) = 0.007 dollars per view/impression

Your cost per impression is a miniscule seven tenths of one cent. By comparison, that TV ad we mentioned can run you hundreds or thousands of dollars for every 5,000 views. By comparison, that TV ad we mentioned can run you hundreds of of thousands of dollars for 5,000 views.

Types of Banners:

We carry six different types of banners at Good Guys Signs. Time for a brief description on them.

Vinyl- Our standard vinyl banner is the main go-to for business purposes. It’s strong, thick, and quite durable. That durability will give you up to 10 years’ worth of use should you choose to display it indoors. If you decide that outdoor display is the way you want to go, know that a vinyl banner will be affected by harsh weather. Even still, you can expect it to last up to three years.

Mesh- If your desire is to use a banner outdoors, a mesh banner will fulfill your needs fantastically. The reason is that it is comprised of perforated holes throughout its surface area. It means that wind goes right through the banner, unlike a vinyl one that is solid and lacking any of those perforations. There is one drawback in that, due to those perforations, graphics on this type of banner aren’t as crisp or sharp.

Double Sided- Just like it sounds, you get to have both sides of this version of a banner printed on, thus doubling your message impact. The banner material very thick…a quarter amount thicker than standard vinyl banners. A double sided banner is very smooth, great for high-end printing, and stand up to cold and harsh weather very well.

Step and Repeat- Attention, all you trade show booth renters. You’re aware that said trade shows can attract thousands of attendees, thus earning you a high amount of brand awareness in a short amount of time. An additional bonus is that some of those in attendance will take a picture of themselves in front of your Step and Repeat banner, then post it on their social media pages. Free, organic advertising for you.

Retractable- For those same booth renters, a retractable banner accomplishes the same thing as Step and Repeat ones do. What makes retractable banners so special is that they…retract. They’re all-inclusive and roll up into a nice, compact, and lightweight carry case, making them easy to tote around.

Canvas- These are slick and high-end displays. As they are super-striking, they aren’t intended to be a low-end form of advertising. You’ll find these banners located in places like choice corporate offices, and in museums used for nature scenes, art reproductions, and beautifully printed displays.

How Custom Banners are Made:

So, how does your personalized custom banner get created? Here’s how the process works at our shop. Once our graphic designers help you with your design, or do it completely for you, and you approve the order, things really start moving. Your design goes to our production department and those artisans print the banner design onto vinyl material digitally. We carry abundant amounts of vinyl rolls in many sizes because we do receive orders of all different proportions. From there, the material is cut, taped, and/or hemmed to the exact dimensions you ordered. Grommets are inserted for free per request (more on grommets momentarily), and our production staff finishes the job by rolling up your custom banner for you to pick up or for us to ship to you.

Turnaround Time- You’ll be pleased to know that if choose us to print your personalized banner, our turnaround time is unbeatable within the industry. As a general rule, we have the mindset that there will be no circumstance which will keep us from having your product ready for you within two business days. Part of our About Us page on our website reads, “We want to blow our customers away with quality, speed, service, and advice. We desire to deliver the best value in the graphics industry in the United States. It is critically important to us that people trust us with their brand and their money. This includes the aforementioned elements of quality materials, well printed, fast with the right product for the need.” We’ve been in the banner printing and producing business since 2009. And we saved the best for last when it comes to our turnaround time for your printed banner. While the two-day job completion is the timeline we won’t miss, banners are usually ready in just one business day.

Ideas for Hanging Your Banner:

You need very little when it comes to materials with which to hang your banner. As mentioned, we provide grommets free of charge. A grommet, at its core, is simply a brass ring that we punch into the upper corners of your banner fabric. The following link is a quick demonstration of how we insert grommets into banners.

So, the only material you would have to get is rope or strong twine or heavy-duty string. In some situations, you may need nails or Command Strips.

Creativity and Thought Process- You want to be as creative as you can when thinking about where you want to hang your banner. That makes total sense. You want to get the most bang for your buck as possible. For whatever your purpose is, you want everybody to see it. But you do need to consider the situation, the event, the elements. Have a thought process on exploring different ideas and ways to hang your banner.

If you’re a business owner, you’ll want to understand that the most eyeballs you’ll attract will be just inside the entrance to your store. When customers come in, they will end up dispersing to different areas, as many of them are looking for divergent products. The percentages of viewership of you banner diminish greatly at that point. The circumstance when displaying a banner further inside the store would be if you really want to let people know about a new product, one that’s on sale, or one that you’re trying to sell hard.

However, when you do hang that banner up in front of the store, make sure to keep it low enough so that customers don’t have to crane their neck to read it. Most people won’t dedicate the energy to do it, and you’ll have lost plenty of sale opportunities. Having your banner up front is prime for a grand opening or a storewide blowout sale.

Events- Let’s discuss birthdays and how best to hang your custom banner. Taking the hypothetical six-year-old boy’s birthday party as our first example, it will likely be high-energy and loud. There will be lots of running around, playing with new toys, and those elements suggest an outdoor party. Putting the birthday banner inside would defeat the purpose. You want it to be seen. Therein lies the need for creativity and the thought process. Perhaps hang your banner with rope between two trees or posts if you have them on the front porch. Look around at your surroundings and visualize scenarios and locations that will work best. Plan and it will come to you.

Conversely, let’s use the example of a couple that’s celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. It’s winter and they live in Minnesota. Given their age and the low temperatures, these festivities require an indoor event setting. Your best bet for displaying the honorary presentation might be with nails or Command Strips.
