IEPF (Investor Education Protection Fund)

Being a shareholder or holder of any securities, there is always a dilemma in the minds of the shareholders regarding the safety of their money and interest. To keep this mind, Iepf (Investor Education Protection Fund) has been established to keep interest of the investors secured and protected.

1. What is IEPF?

IEPF is a coined word of Investor Education Protection Fund, established by MCA (Ministry of Corporate Affairs) which protects the interest of the investors and the people at a large.

2. What does IEPF do?

IEPF settles all the claims in regards to unclaimed dividend, unclaimed shares and amount of interest on shares.
Amount of Dividend or shares are transferred to IEPF Account of the investors who haven’t claimed their dividend for 7 consecutive years.

3. How we do get back the shares or dividend from IEPF?

It’s a lengthy process, if investor want to get back their shares from IEPF Account to their D-MAT Account and Dividend back to their bank account, investors have to approach IEPF Authority by filing a Form IEPF-5 for claiming the ownership of the shares.

4. How do one file an IEPF claim?

Filing of IEPF Form is a complete online process yet quite technical as the form only have one resubmission allowed and the documentation part of the claiming process is quite lengthy and hectic.

5. Documents required to claim Dividend and Shares.

  • Indemnity Bond (original) with claimant signature.
  • Advance stamped receipt (original) with revenue stamp and signature of claimant and witnesses.
  • Original matured debenture/deposit /share certificate (when securities are held in physical form) or copy of transaction statement (when securities are held in Demat form).
  • Self-attested copy of Aadhaar card.
  • Proof of entitlement. i.e. certificate of share, interest warrant application number, etc.
  • Cancelled cheque.
  • Copy of passport, Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person Of Indian Origin (PIO) card, in case of foreigners and NRI.
  •  Email ID and Phone Number

The shareholder of a company whose unclaimed or unpaid amount is transferred to the IEPF can claim the refund of such amount from the IEPF Authority.
