Despite his ongoing decade-long legal dispute with Kesha, Ascap has awarded Dr. Luke Songwriter of the Year at the 40th annual Pop Awards.
Lukasz Gottwald, otherwise called Dr. Luke, has been named Lyricist of the Year for the third time in that classification at the 40th yearly ASCAP Pop Honors. The maker brought back home the honor for his hit tune commitments over the course of the last year, including Doja Feline’s “Need to Be aware,” Latto’s “Huge Energy,” and Nicki Minaj’s “Very Freaky Young lady.”
The performance rights organization’s metric of “the total number of a writer’s shares in ASCAP’s Pop Music Award-winning songs multiplied by the winning songs’ impressions, which are calculated based on Luminate data from radio and streaming” served as the basis for Dr. Luke’s victory, according to a press release from ASCAP.
In any case, Dr. Luke’s success is questionable because of rape charges and an almost very long term fight in court with vocalist Kesha. Since the beginning of that scandal in 2014, this year marks his first win for Songwriter of the Year. The producer is fighting a defamation lawsuit against Kesha, and their latest trial is scheduled for July 26 in New York.
Dr. Luke had previously won the prize in 2010 and 2011. He is attached with Lionel Richie for three successes, however Diane Warren and Max Martin have them beaten with five and eleven successes, individually. The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “Stay,” which won Song of the Year at the 2023 ASCAP Pop Awards and Sony Music Publishing won Publisher of the Year, are two other winners.
In the mean time, Kesha’s most recent record, Gag Request, was delivered on Friday (May 19) — her most recent undertaking to be delivered under Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records.
“I feel as though there has been a suggested gag request for quite a while now,” the vocalist said. ” I have not been able to speak freely because I am aware that everything I say will be scrutinized while my ongoing litigation hangs over my head.
