How To Change Your Shopify Store Password (Video + Tips)

Step-By-Step Guide to Change a Shopify Password

There are actually two different ways you can change a password on your Shopify account.

Method 1 – You already know your password but wish to change it for security reasons

Step 1 – Login to your Shopify store and open up the homepage.

Step 2 – Navigate to the top right-hand corner of the page. Here, you will see your username for your Shopify store. Next, click on your username, and you will see a drop-down box appear.

Step 3 – Select ‘Manage account’ from the drop-down box. This will then take you into your Shopify account page.

Step 4 – Click on the ‘security’ icon on the top left-hand side of the account page.

Step 5 – A list of options will now appear on the page in front of you, the first of which will be a box that is titled ‘Change your password.’ Click this box.

Step 6 – Enter your current password in the first field, then you will see the next field is asking you to choose a new password. If you allow it, the password generator will offer to create a strong password for you. You can choose this, but you must make a copy of the password to store securely.

Step 7 – Confirm the changes by selecting the blue button labeled ‘change password.’

Method 2 – You get a Shopify password reset error because you forgot the password

Step 1 – Click to login, as usual, entering your store’s admin URL when requested.

Step 2 – If you don’t have your email address pre-saved, please enter this. Then, under the blue ‘login’ button, you will see the phrase ‘forgot password.’ Click here.

Step 3 – At this point, Shopify will ask you to confirm your email again, and you will see a bluer button ‘reset password.’ Please click this.

Step 4 – Once you have done this, you will see a confirmation that a link to reset your password has been emailed to you.

Step 5 – Open your emails and lookout for an email titled ‘reset your password’ that will be sent to you by Shopify. When you get the email, you will need to click on the blue button that is labeled ‘reset password.’

Step 6 – Next, you will be directed to a form that is asking you to choose and generate a new password.

Step 7 – Choose a new password that is unique and strong. When you’ve confirmed this, press the blue ‘reset password’ button.

You will now be redirected to a new page where you can log in to Shopify using the new password you have just chosen.

How to choose a Shopify Password you can remember

Although it’s perfectly normal to forget a password from time to time, once you’ve created a strong password for your Shopify account, it’s important to do this with a password you’re going to remember. Otherwise, you will find yourself spending more time than you’d like doing a Shopify password reset.

Remember that if you make too many failed attempts to log in to your account, you will be locked out for anything up to 12 hours.
