Find a Coach & Unlock Your Potential by Ben Walker

‘I don't do well taking orders from other people and I don't have a resume, so it would be hard for me to get a job.’

My entrepreneurship journey started when I was in the process of breaking up with my old Business partner, and it happened rather quickly. He's twice my age and had run a number of companies, and I had never run one before. When we decided it was time to split I was on my own within a month or so. We had a disagreement about diversifying our company and it was suggested that I go out on my own, and I said okay. Then a month later I was on my own and had to figure pretty much everything out on my own from that point forward. Once I had a Coach though it was much smoother sailing from there, it took me 6 years to realize I needed a coach though.

What was the driving force towards entrepreneurship?

I don't do well taking orders from other people and don't have a resume, so it would be hard for me to get a job. Watching some of the decision making happen at my previous jobs was also hard for me. I was not allowed to give any input and yet had to deal with the consequences of the decisions being made by other people. That didn't sit well with me because I was 100% invested in my job and they would make a decision and disappear and then we couldn't tweak or make any changes to their decisions even if whatever it was they decided didn't work. Then you wait days or weeks for them to fix it and I was not good at waiting for them to make the necessary changes.

What hurdles did you face after the split with your Business Partner and how did you overcome them?
Almost everything was new to me when I was setting up my company. I had never had anything even close to this before so everything from setting up an LLC to having an employee manual was new and challenging. I had to hire someone for almost everything legally related, and even then I wasn't sure I was hiring the right person.

Tell us about the value of having a coach as a business person.
Having a coach or mentor is easily the best decision I've made as a business owner. They help you navigate some tough situations, and have more than likely been there and done that before. When you find one that you get along with and is in it for your success it will do wonders for you and your company.

What is Transcription Outsourcing LLC about?

To do good for our clients, in every situation no matter what and good things will happen. Even if it is the harder thing to do, do it anyway, and eventually you will be rewarded. Transcription Outsourcing is about helping our clients run their offices smoothly and efficiently. We want to run in the background for them and never hear from them, because if we hear from them something has most likely gone awry and they want it fixed.

Why did you decide to start it and did you have any capital?

I had started to make inroads in the medical industry here in Denver and it made sense to build on that, as well as branching out into the legal and law enforcement industries. I started with a little over $50,000, so not a lot of money in today’s start up world. We didn't need a lot though because I had clients already I brought with me from the old company they let me have.
