Becoming The Captain of Your Own Life: An Entrepreneurs Mission of Helping Others Succeed.

BD Mag - Taylor, thank you for taking the time for this interview. We think our audience at Business Digest Magazine will love your story!

BD Mag - To start off, what's your background? What did you do before creating The Captain's Lifestyle Program?

Taylor Morgan - Before creating the program, I served as a machine gunner in the Marine Corps for 4 years. During that time, as with most Marines, I was a pretty heavy drinker. One night while drunk (and high on weed), I broke my ankle jumping from rooftop to rooftop of beach houses in San Clemente, CA. It's a crazy story and I definitely would have been thrown in jail, had I been caught, but I'll spare you the details for now.

Because of my injury, I would miss my next deployment with my brothers. This hurt me deeply. So, I decided to make some changes. Instead of continuing to drink, play video games all day, and feel sorry for myself, I used my new free time to develop my skills as a CrossFit coach and sharpen my physical and mental abilities. I started reading (which I always despised), listening to educational podcasts, taking online college courses, and going to the gym even more. I then made a New Year’s resolution to cut out all alcohol for an entire year, which I ended up extending for an additional 10 months.

At this point, I had completely changed my life around and had been recruited to be the Head Coach at the biggest CrossFit gym in Saudi Arabia. I accepted the position for the money, turning down a lower paying coaching position in the beautiful Cayman Islands. I was in Saudi Arabia for a total of 6 months before coming back to the States to dive headfirst into The Captain's Lifestyle Program.

BD Mag - What made you decide to create your own program?

Well during my time as a CrossFit coach, I had the privilege to coach at 4 different gyms. Every single one I coached at, the high achievers (people who are constantly striving for MORE in their personal and professional lives) would ask me a version of the same question: "I've been coming into the gym for X amount of time now and I'm still not seeing all the results I'm looking for. Why am I not making more progress?"

My answer would always be: "Well how much are you sleeping? What is your diet like? How stressed are you? Etc."

Their answers were always the same: "Sleep? I don't know, usually 5-6 hours. I eat "pretty good." And work has been busy/stressful lately." Well, there are your answers.

I realized I wasn't making as big of an impact on their health and happiness as I would like to. In comparison to things like sleep, nutrition, and relationships, exercise is such a small factor in living a long, healthy, and fulfilling life. I wanted to do more than give them tips and tricks on how to work out better, I wanted to CHANGE THEIR LIVES!

In addition to that, I also wanted to upgrade my own life. I wasn't fulfilled in Saudi Arabia. Even though I was making good money and only working about 30 hours a week, I came to realize that money truly does not buy you happiness. I wanted to be my own boss. I wanted to be able to work from wherever and whenever I wanted. I missed seeing trees, green grass, being in the ocean, and cold weather (the dessert doesn't cut it for me). I hated seeing trash everywhere and watching people litter. I wanted to be around like-minded people. People who constantly strive for excellence in everything they do. People who care about themselves, other people, animals, and the environment. I knew that I could build my dream life, and help others live theirs, by creating a world class lifestyle optimization program, so that's what I did.

BD Mag - So, tell me, what exactly is The Captain's Lifestyle Program?

The Captain's Lifestyle Program is a 90 day, 1-on-1, lifestyle optimization course for busy entrepreneurs and executives who want to maximize their health, happiness, and productivity so they can optimize their work-life balance without sacrificing business. We cover the 6 pillars of human performance which are: mindset/vision, sleep/recovery, relationships/communication, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle optimization.

Throughout the program, I help my clients create more freedom to do the things they love, build more meaningful relationships for long lasting happiness and business success, feel alert and energized all day to accomplish everything on their to-do list, banish brain fog to achieve unparalleled cognitive performance, boost their confidence, lose body fat, gain muscle, minimize stress, 10X last year’s business performance, and unlock their truly unlimited potential, among other things.

BD Mag - How do you decide who would be a good fit for your program?

I'm glad you asked this. The selection process is actually pretty in depth. You can't just go to my website and sign up; I have to invite you in. So, you start the application process by filling out the Initial Assessment. This gives me a baseline understanding of where you're at in terms of sleep, stress, nutrition, exercise, mindset, happiness, etc. From there, we schedule your free strategy session. This is basically a free 30-minute coaching call where I ask you questions and learn a little bit more about your situation and what you're struggling with, along with what you'd like to achieve. After that, I send you some free resources and give you my recommendations on your next steps. If I think you could possibly be a good fit for The Captain's Lifestyle Program, we will schedule your consultation call. This is a longer 45–60-minute call where we really dive deep into what's going on. On this call, I determine whether or not to extend an invite.

In order to be invited into the program, you must meet certain criteria.

1- You have a problem that I am 100% certain I can solve. If I'm not the best person to help you, I'll send you to someone who is.

2- You must be fully committed to success. I only work with people who are ready to take action and make lasting changes. If you're looking for a quick fix or the easy way out, this isn't for you.

3- You can't be selfish. If you want to build your business and make more money purely for personal gain, I will not accept you. I only work with clients who want to improve themselves so they can help others improve as well, whether that's in business (providing better service for their clients), or their personal lives (spending more quality time with their wife and kids).

BD Mag - Why do you think your clients have had such a high success rate?

Four reasons:

1- I hand select everyone who comes into the program. I don't work with anyone I can't help.

2- The Captain's Lifestyle Program is the most comprehensive and in-depth lifestyle optimization course that I know of.

3- It's personalized to YOU. I don't offer a one-size-fits-all course for a reason. Everyone is different. So, to provide you the best possible results, I tailor my recommendations to your specific needs.

4- Accountability. Each week, we hop a 30-minute Zoom call where I hold you accountable to your weekly goals and daily actionable tasks. In addition to that, we communicate daily via Slack. Accountability is probably the biggest contributing factor when it comes to success.

BD Mag - In what ways has creating your program helped you grow personally and professionally?

Well I am constantly learning everything I can about business and lifestyle optimization; listening to podcasts and interviewing experts on mine, reading, networking, experimenting, etc. In order to best serve my clients, I must lead by example. So I practice everything I preach.

BD Mag - How do you maintain your work/life balance?

By Living The Captain's Lifestyle! Like I said, I practice what I preach. There's a reason I teach the 6 pillars of human performance in that order; they work!

BD Mag - What is your biggest motivation?

One of the best feelings ever is listening to my clients talk about their transformations in our Ending Assessment. The impact that I've been able to make on their lives is astounding. I'm obsessed with making the world a better place and I believe that starts by first optimizing yourself, which I work on every single day, and then by helping create better humans. Living the Captain's Lifestyle essentially means that you care. You care about yourself, you care about others, and you care about the planet. So, my biggest motivation is having the influence to help people take control of their lives and start helping others do the same.

BD Mag - What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone looking to grow their business?

It depends. This is why my program is personalized. Everyone is at a different stage in their business and everyone is experiencing different obstacles. But in general, I would say to work on building your EQ, or emotional intelligence. Business is built on, and expanded by, quality relationships, which again, ultimately goes back to caring.
