Hospital Floor Cleaning Manual

According to the recent expense index of the infirmary industry, 40% of the maintenance budget is spent on hospital floor cleaning tasks. This is not a minor cost when compared to overall outlays. So, we—at Ultimate Epoxy Flooring—believe that enhancing the cleanup procedures is vital for the health care industry. That’s why our editorial team created this 5-step manual on how to clean the hospital flooring effectively.

Since the instructions below work well for most Epoxy bases, you can employ them for workshop floor covering, office flooring, and/or other comparable commercial flooring requirements.

Hospital Floor Cleaning Equipment

  • PPE or Personal Protection Equipment (see below)
  • Dry mop
  • Damp Mop
  • Refinishing brush
  • Floor fan (optional)
  • Wet-floor sign
  • Buckets

Step One: Get Ready

First things first, you should gear up and use PPE to guarantee your wellbeing. Depending on which section you work, Personal Protective Equipment may differ. So, consult the supervisor before choosing what to wear.

However, pieces of equipment and gears that you must always have are a pair of gloves, slip-resistant shoes/boots, a mask, a disposable gown, and hand sterilizers.

Step Two: Dry Mop the Hospital Floor

Now, if you’re geared up, remove the base mats, and place the wet-Floor signs in proper distances, making sure the patients and nurses will see them effortlessly. Always work half of the hospital floor at a time so people could move about properly.

Dry mop the base so that no dust and/or visible contaminator is on the ground. Use a specific brush that is marked for this procedure only.

Step Three: Damp Mop It

Pick a long-handled mop and damp it appropriately. Grasp it just below the waistline with the stronger hand and use the opposite one to steadies the moves. Now, start mopping by walking backward while checking your back constantly.

Step Four: Strip the Base

Lay down the buffer or floor cleaner machine to attach the stripping pad. Place the machine on top of the pad so that the buffer’s weight is keeping the pad in its place. Next, set up the machine and strip the base using a figure 8 shape.

Don’t hurry and use the device patiently, giving it enough time to sanitize the surface. Finally, utilize the floor fan to accelerate the drying progress.

In case you need more info on operating such a device read our blog post on how to use and care for a floor cleaner machine.

Step Five: Refinish the Hospital Coating

Now that the surface is completely sanitized, you must refinish it to reduce the chances of further infections. To do so, you should use a proper cleanser or protective liquid and apply it to the base.

There are several options available when it comes to refinishing substances. But we’re not going to give you names—because choosing the proper one depends on various factors. Consult your supervisor to cherry-pick the best liquid.

You might want to utilize a backpack microfiber applicator to smear the refinishing liquid to the ground. However, utilizing a marked mop would do as well.

Note: you must wait for 20 min. before walking on the refinished base.
